About our roof survey in Durrant Green
We survey roofs in Durrant Green and across London and South East England. We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and bring 20+ years’ experience. You get a written report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. Houses, flats and commercial buildings all follow the same careful process. To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or send us an email. Common reasons to book are loose chimney pots and gaps in the roof where coverings have gone, across the roof space, flat roofs and clay and concrete tiles.
Older buildings in small places like Durrant Green may be listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Older materials such as clay tiles, slate and stone are often matched when work is done.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What we look for on each type of roof
Natural slate
Natural slate can last 100 years or more, but its nails often corrode first. Slipped, cracked and missing slates are all noted, and for clips that show past repairs.
Chimney stacks
We look at the stack itself, and it is not a flue or gas safety check. We’ll tell you if the flue needs a specialist.
What we can’t see
In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- The condition of the rest of the building (that’s a RICS home survey)
- A promise that the roof will not leak in future
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.

What we are asked to look at in Durrant Green
Flashings seal the joints where a roof meets a wall or chimney. Over time lead flashings split, lift or work loose, and mortar fillets crack away from the wall. Lead is also a target for theft.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Loose chimney pots
- Leaking gutter joints and downpipes
- Lifted, split or missing lead flashings
- Worn or blocked valleys
If you live in an older home near Church of St Michael, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- Which limits apply to the survey
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
Your questions about roof surveys in Durrant Green
Is Durrant Green within the area you cover?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
How do I find out if my home in Durrant Green is listed?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Does someone need to be in?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We’ll talk about access as you book.
Can you tell me how long my roof will last?
We do not put a figure on it, because so much depends on the fixings, underlay and upkeep. What we do is explain the roof’s condition and what to deal with first.
What if it rains on the day?
It can, depending on the survey. Drones can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. We’ll rearrange with you if the weather isn’t right.
How soon is the report ready?
The Premium Survey has a same-day report, Standard 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Photos are included.
Will you climb onto the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Many roofs can be seen well from windows, vantage points and the loft, and Premium includes a drone where applicable.
What happens on the day
It’s useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit typically takes between one and two hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. Somewhere as small as Durrant Green, access is frequently the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- You pick the package that suits your roof.
- On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
- We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- The report is emailed with findings and recommendations.

Advice
Should I look at the roof myself first?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Roof surveys around Durrant Green
Older houses across Kent often have handmade clay or peg tiles, and many have tile-hung walls. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Homes near green spaces such as Wattle Wood can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall. Take a building like St Michael's Church of England Primary School: a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.
