Roof surveys in Elmstead Market

Leave it or get it looked at?

Hidden gutters and valleys can fail without warning. An overflow there sends water indoors. A survey checks them while they’re still dry. Around Elmstead Market, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls. It’s easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.

Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Roof survey in Elmstead Market

Our roof surveys cover Elmstead Market and the wider South East. Visits run on any day of the week. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Each survey ends with a written report, emailed with photos and recommendations. Houses, flats and commercial buildings all follow the same careful process. To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or send us an email. Common reasons to book are leaking gutter joints and downpipes and slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles, on flat roofs, chimney stacks and natural slate.

Trees around homes in smaller places like Elmstead Market drop leaves, twigs and moss onto roofs and into gutters. Blocked gutters overflow and soak the walls below. It is the kind of slow problem a roof report picks up early. Moss on the roof and weeds in the gutter are both easy to spot from the ground.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Tips that help

Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:

  • Include dormers, porches and garages when you book
  • Gather any paperwork for past roof work
  • Let us know about past leaks
  • Keep the report with your property records

Any roofer you ask to quote can work from the report. The photos show what we found and where, which makes quotes easier to compare.

Have gutters and valleys cleared regularly, ideally after the leaves have fallen. Use a gutter contractor rather than climbing a ladder yourself. Clear gutters prevent a lot of damp.

Elmstead Market questions

Does being near the coast affect roofs in Elmstead Market?

Near the coast, roofs face more wind and more salt than further inland. Salt is hard on nails, clips and metal flashings, while strong wind lifts anything already loose.

Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Alresford station?

Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you need.

Can you inspect a terraced or semi-detached roof?

Yes. We survey the parts of the roof you have access to. Where a defect looks to be on the neighbour’s side, the report says so.

How long does the visit take?

On site, it usually takes between one and two hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. The report follows within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.

Will you climb onto the roof?

When the roof and the conditions make it safe, yes. Many roofs can be seen well from windows, vantage points and the loft.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.

What we look for on each type of roof

Lead flashings and valleys

Most leaks begin at a joint rather than the middle of a slope. They get particular attention in every survey.

Flat roof coverings

Standing water, blisters and splits all point to wear. Upstands and outlets are checked too.

What a roof survey looks like in Elmstead Market

Elmstead Market lies within about 3 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Anne and St Lawrence, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs. If you look after a building such as Elmstead Primary School, its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. With Castle House about 4.8 miles north, the area around Elmstead Market has a long history. On a period home nearby, the survey separates sound original work from tired later repairs.

What a survey costs

Our packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • House, block, shop or office
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, which starts from £400, including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

Booking your survey

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • Dates you are working to, like exchange
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • What made you get in touch

To book a survey, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. We will confirm the price before booking.

How it works

After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photos, sent to you by email. On timing, it typically takes about 1–2 hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. Homes around Elmstead Market often have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. Inside, the loft is looked at where it can be reached safely.

  1. You pick the package that suits your roof.
  2. On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
  3. Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
  4. Extra checks are carried out where your package includes them.
  5. The report is emailed with findings and recommendations.
