Storm damage roof report in Chandler's Cross: what you get
After a storm, it helps to have a clear record of what happened to your roof. Our report shows the damage in photos and says whether it looks like storm damage, wear and tear, or a mix. We aren’t loss adjusters, and we can’t say whether a claim will be paid. What you get is an independent view of the roof’s condition. Common reasons to book are lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles and damaged gutters and fascias, across ridges and hips, flashings and slate and tile slopes.
Being in a small place like Chandler's Cross makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: the journey and access are just planned ahead of time. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. Photos of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.
The report records the roof as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, like when you want to compare after future work.

Before and after the survey
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Read your policy wording on storm damage
- Photograph damage inside the house too
- Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in
- Do not go onto the roof to take pictures
After the visit, we write up the report with photos of each area of damage. It sets out what is damaged, the likely cause and any signs of older wear. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.
Clear gutters and outlets before the stormy months. Blocked drainage can add water damage to wind damage.
What a storm damage roof report looks like in Chandler's Cross
Chenies Manor House, about 3.2 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Chandler's Cross. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.
If you let a flat or house near Kings Langley station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as York House School, water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot. Shop and office owners around Charter Place may find that a quick answer on where water is coming in keeps a business running.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Chandler's Cross
Do you carry out roof surveys in Chandler's Cross?
Yes, Chandler's Cross is within the area we cover. We work right across London and South East England. Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the property.
How do I find out if my home in Chandler's Cross is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
What do I do if water is coming in?
Emergency temporary protection is a job for a roofer. If it’s safe, take photos before it goes on. We can record the damage in our report.
How long is the visit?
Most surveys take about one to two hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. The report follows by email.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
Can you tell me if my claim will be paid?
The decision is your insurer’s, not ours. Our report records what is damaged, with photos, and the likely cause, for you to give to your insurer.
How the survey changes by roof type
Slate roofs
Natural slate can last 100 years or more, but the nails frequently fail first. The report records whether slipped slates look like storm damage or older wear.
Ridge and hip tiles
Ridge tiles bedded in old mortar can loosen in high winds. Our report says whether it looks freshly damaged or worn over time.

What we can’t see
It’s useful to know what a survey will not do before booking:
- Areas we cannot see safely
- A decision on your insurance claim
- What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers
- Flashings
- Flat roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Ridges and hips
- Slate and tile slopes
- Gutters and fascias
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
What we do, step by step
We’ll ask a few questions first, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes an hour or two at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Older roofs in small places like Chandler's Cross can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
- We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there is access.
- Each area of damage is photographed and described.
- We check whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
- The findings are written up with photos for you to share with your insurer.
