Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Marsworth
We inspect the roof from wherever it can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows and higher points, from the roof space and from the roof where it is safe. Every area of damage is photographed and described. We note any part we couldn’t see. The report, with photos, is yours to pass to your insurer. We survey flashings, gutters and fascias and slate and tile slopes, and common reasons people get in touch are damaged gutters and fascias and lead lifted at abutments.
Being in a small place like Marsworth makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. It helps to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, along with any repairs done before. Photographs of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.
If you own several properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To discuss a number of properties, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the addresses.
Wind, rain and roofs in Marsworth
Historic houses such as Cholesbury Manor House, about 4.6 miles south, show how far back building in the area around Marsworth goes. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.
If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of All Saints, the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself. Landlords with a home close to Tring station may find that a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer right away. Take a building like Marsworth Church of England Infant School: a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside.

How we price storm damage roof reports
Our packages start from £150, inc. VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- The size of the roof
- House, block, shop or office
- Height and safe access
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
Booking your survey
What helps most when you contact us:
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
We survey roofs on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and the days you’d prefer.
How it works
Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take about 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. In a hamlet or village like Marsworth, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
- We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there is access.
- We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
- We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
- You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.
Getting ready for the survey
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- Check pets are kept safely away

Marsworth questions
Do you cover Marsworth?
We do. The survey and report are the same in Marsworth as anywhere else.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Marsworth?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.
How many surveys have you done?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
Are you loss adjusters?
No. We are not loss adjusters, and we do not negotiate claims. We give you an independent report of the damage, which you can pass to your insurer.
Will my insurer pay out if I get a storm damage report?
Only your insurer can decide that. Our report records what is damaged, with photos, and the likely cause, for you to give to your insurer.
How strong does the wind have to be for a storm claim?
There’s no single figure. Many policies treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but it varies. Check your policy wording.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Damage left open lets in more rain. Further water damage can blur what the storm actually did. Emergency temporary protection should be arranged with a roofer. Older cottages and farmhouses around Marsworth can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it is left.
Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.
Why us?
- 5,000+ surveys completed
- An independent look at the roof
- Weekday and weekend surveys
- Professional indemnity and public liability insurance
Before and after the survey
Getting the most from a storm damage roof report starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:
- Check your policy for how to report damage
- Photograph the damage safely from below
- Hold on to fallen pieces of the roof where you can
- Look at what your policy says about wear and tear
You get the report by email and pass it to your insurer yourself. We don’t deal with the insurer on your behalf.
A well-maintained roof stands up to storms better. Have loose slates, tiles and flashings seen to promptly.
