FAQs for Mount Pleasant
Do you cover Mount Pleasant?
Yes. We work right across London and South East England, and Mount Pleasant is part of that. Just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the property, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Is my home in Mount Pleasant listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
How does a thermal imaging roof survey work?
The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Unusual patterns can point to trapped water, gaps in insulation or heat escaping, and we check them with moisture readings.
How soon will I get the report?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email, ready to forward.
Will the camera show exactly where the water is?
Thermal imaging shows temperature rather than water. Because wet insulation holds heat for longer, it can show as a different temperature, but we check each finding with moisture readings.
Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?
It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. We look from the loft as well, where there’s safe access.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. The report includes photos of what we found.
Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Mount Pleasant
Wet insulation under a flat roof covering holds heat for longer than dry. So a wet patch can show as a warmer or cooler area on the camera. It helps us see how far water may have spread under the covering, which is hard to judge by eye. We then check those areas with moisture readings. If you’re worried about leaks far from where the stain appears and moisture around outlets and upstands, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Some older homes in villages like Mount Pleasant are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Flying and imaging in Mount Pleasant
If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls are typical of older Sussex houses. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs, and oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of East Sussex’s older buildings. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.
If you look after a building such as Barcombe Church of England Primary School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. Take an older house close to St Bartholomews: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Mount Pleasant is about 4 miles north of Lewes, in East Sussex. Whether the building in Mount Pleasant is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, we can survey the roof on a weekday or at the weekend. Our area takes in places right across East Sussex, large and small. You can also see our page for Brighton.

What we’re asked to look at in Mount Pleasant
Once a leak has been fixed, people often ask whether the roof is still wet. Thermal images and moisture readings can suggest whether moisture is still trapped, given suitable conditions on the day.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
Historic houses such as Glyndebourne, about 4.1 miles south-east, show how far back building around Mount Pleasant goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof itself.
What to check before booking
- Whether VAT is added on top
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys
Our packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
- House, block, shop or office
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.
What to tell us when you contact us
There is no need for technical words. It’s enough to tell us:
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
You can call us seven days a week. To book or ask a question, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
For landlords and managing agents
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps when budgeting.

Why act early in Mount Pleasant
Once insulation under a membrane is wet, it tends to stay wet. In time, it stops insulating properly and can damage the deck. Finding them early can mean a smaller job. For older village homes like those around Mount Pleasant, the right replacement materials are not always easy to find quickly. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.

The survey, step by step
We look at the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the roof space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey normally takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Older rural homes like those around Mount Pleasant can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Getting ready for the survey
- Check the loft hatch can be reached
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Point out any leaks or damp patches

Roof by roof
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Because these membranes are thin, patterns from below often show. Reflections from shiny surfaces can affect readings, which we allow for.
GRP fibreglass roofs
GRP roofs are laid over timber boards, so trapped moisture can affect the deck. Thermal imaging can suggest where that may be happening.
