Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Norlington

A thermal survey can point to places where heat is escaping through the roof. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated areas can stand out on the images. It works best when the building is heated and it is colder outside. Our report points out what the images suggest and where to look more closely. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations. If you’ve noticed wet insulation beneath the membrane and wet areas near outlets and upstands, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Villages like Norlington frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

It is not only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

What we do, step by step

We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. In a small place like Norlington, access is normally the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Before we arrive

  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Norlington: your questions answered

Is Norlington in the area you cover?

Yes, Norlington is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Do you cover smaller places like Norlington?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, if the building owner or managing agent agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to.

Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?

It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?

Thermal images can suggest where heat is escaping and where insulation may be missing. We don’t give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the report shows where to look more closely.

What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?

It records surface temperature across the roof. Differences can suggest wet areas, missing insulation or heat loss, and we check them with moisture readings.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing aren’t part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them.

Why get it checked now?

A poorly insulated roof loses heat year after year. The camera can point to gaps and thin areas in the insulation, so improvements can go where they’re needed. For older village homes like those around Norlington, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

Thermal roof surveys around Norlington

If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Older houses across Sussex frequently have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings, alongside oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Anyone responsible for a site like Ringmer Community College and Sixth Form will know that big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. With Glyndebourne about 1.6 miles south, the area around Norlington has a long history. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. For an older house near a landmark such as The Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

What a thermal roof survey does not cover

No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:

  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
  • Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
  • A formal energy assessment

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Flat roofs
  • Commercial roofs
  • Loft conversions

Roof by roof

Loft insulation

Loft insulation is easily disturbed when people store things or run cables. Thermal images can show where it has been pushed aside.

GRP fibreglass roofs

GRP roofs are laid over timber boards, so trapped moisture can affect the deck. The camera can help show where to look.

Can I check my roof myself?

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys

Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 inc. VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.

What to let us know when you contact us

You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just tell us:

  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Dates you’re working to, like exchange
  • Where the property is, with the postcode

A quick phone call is usually the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.
