How a thermal roof survey works in Warbleton

We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. We explain what each pattern may mean, what the moisture readings found and what we recommend. With a Premium Survey, the report reaches you the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. If you are worried about water getting in at parapets and stacks and areas of a flat roof that may hold water, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on commercial roofs, loft conversions and flat roofs alike.

Some older homes in villages like Warbleton are listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Tips from our surveys

Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
  • Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing
  • Note where damp appears and after what weather
  • Clear a path to the loft hatch before we arrive

If the images suggest moisture that cannot be confirmed, we’ll say what would help next, for example electronic leak detection or a roofer opening up a small section.

Have small defects in the covering fixed early. Once water gets under a membrane, it can travel far before it appears inside.

What affects the price in Warbleton

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • The roof’s overall size
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

Booking your survey

Some details help us suggest the right survey and price. When you contact us, let us know:

  • When you need the report by
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is

Unsure which package suits your roof? It is easiest to ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll explain the options and the price.

What we look for on each type of roof

GRP fibreglass roofs

Cracks in GRP can let water into the boards beneath. We check cracks by eye and use the images to see whether there is a pattern around them.

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

Many single-ply and EPDM roofs sit on insulation boards. If water gets under them, thermal imaging can suggest which boards are wet.

FAQs for Warbleton

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Warbleton?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Do you cover Warbleton?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and Warbleton is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and some details.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the survey around it.

How long does the survey take?

That depends on the size and shape of the roof, but most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. The written report follows by email.

What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?

The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Unusual patterns can point to trapped water, gaps in insulation or heat escaping, which we then check with moisture readings.

Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?

It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

How it works

On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. After that, we check everything we can see safely. Most surveys take between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. In a hamlet or village like Warbleton, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Preparing for the visit

  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Check the loft hatch can be reached
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

  • A structural engineer’s assessment

Thermal roof surveys around Warbleton

If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Historic houses such as Horselunges Manor, about 4 miles south, show how far back building in the area around Warbleton goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.

For an older house near a landmark like The Parish Church of St Mary, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. If you look after a building like Heathfield Community College, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
