Thermal roof survey in Wartling: what you get

Wet insulation under a flat roof covering holds heat for longer than dry. So a wet patch can show as a warmer or cooler area on the camera. It helps us see how far water may have spread under the covering, something you cannot usually tell from the surface. We then check those areas with moisture readings. We survey commercial roofs, flat roofs and pitched roof slopes, and people most frequently book us about damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys and leaks far from where the stain appears.

Villages like Wartling often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Useful tips for Wartling property owners

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:

  • Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing
  • Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
  • Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
  • Keep a record of when stains appear

After the visit, we put the thermal images, photographs and moisture readings into one report. We explain what each image may mean, alongside what we recommend. With a Premium Survey, you get the report the same day.

Deal with small splits and lifted seams promptly. Water that gets under a covering can spread a long way before it shows.

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Wartling

Some defects simply cannot be seen with the eye. Wet insulation, gaps in insulation and heat loss are frequently invisible from outside. A thermal camera adds another way of finding them.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Missing or slipped insulation
  • Leaks that are hard to trace
  • Wet insulation beneath the membrane
  • Cold areas below the roof

If your house is among the older ones in the streets near The Parish Church of St Mary Magdalene, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • How soon the report will arrive
  • Are they insured for the work?
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photos

For landlords and managing agents

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too. Larger roofs take longer.

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photographs included.

Wartling questions

Do you carry out roof surveys in Wartling?

We do. The survey and report are the same in Wartling as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Will you come out to Wartling?

Yes, Wartling is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only if it is safe. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from ground level, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We carry out surveys on any day of the week. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

What’s the best way to book?

It’s easiest to call 07833 053749 or send us an email. Give us the address and some details about the roof, and we will suggest the right survey. Surveys run on any day of the week.

Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?

It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. We explain what the images can and can’t tell you, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

What we do, step by step

We look at the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the roof space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. The whole visit normally takes an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Cottages and farmhouses around Wartling frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
  2. We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can be seen safely.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
  4. Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
  5. We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Drones, thermal imaging and Wartling roofs

Wartling is within about 3 miles of the coast, and wind off the sea can be strong. Calm, dry conditions after a sunny day suit thermal imaging best, so the visit is planned around the forecast. With Horselunges Manor about 5 miles west, Wartling sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

What we look for on each type of roof

Loft insulation

Insulation often gets moved during work in the loft. Thermal images can show where it has been pushed aside.

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

Felt and asphalt sit tight to the layers below, which often helps the camera pick up differences. Any patterns are checked with moisture readings.
