Drone roof surveys in Finchingfield

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Finchingfield

Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. We survey chimney stacks, fragile roofs and large and complex roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are lifted or split lead flashings and outlets choked with leaves and silt.

Some older homes in villages like Finchingfield are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Finchingfield

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant beforehand.

Landlords, agents and building managers in Finchingfield and across Essex can book any of our surveys. To discuss a property or a block, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

It’s useful to know what a survey won’t do before you book:

  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

How the survey works

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. For a village or hamlet like Finchingfield, the journey is planned beforehand: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared

When to book a survey in Finchingfield

From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. You can’t see the back slope, the valleys or the chimney tops. Problems in those places often go unseen until they leak, which is why owners turn to a drone.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Debris building up in hidden gutters
  • Lead work pulling away at abutments
  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles

If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Parish Church of St John the Baptist, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • What insurance they carry
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photos
  • Which limits apply to the survey

What a good roof survey covers

Finchingfield: your questions answered

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Finchingfield?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Finchingfield?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

How soon will I get the report?

Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline when booking.

What happens after the survey?

You will receive the report by email, and you decide the next step: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.

Do I need to be at home?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

What does a roof survey cost?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, inc. VAT.

Do you work in Finchingfield?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and that includes Finchingfield.

Airspace, weather and Finchingfield roofs

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

For any home in Finchingfield, it’s the small, early fault that is cheapest to put right.

Chimney stacks

Our drone check of a chimney is visual, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. We will say if a specialist is needed.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.
