Drone roof survey in Jordans

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we’re there to survey. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, large and complex roofs and fragile roofs, and people most frequently book us about worn lead at chimneys and walls and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below.

Villages like Jordans frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It is useful right away, and a good reference for later.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:

  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Height and safe access

One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

What to tell us when you get in touch

You do not need to know any roofing terms. It’s enough to let us know:

  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • What’s prompted the survey

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

It’s useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when booking, as it helps us focus the survey.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

How it works

We will ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. For a village or hamlet like Jordans, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

How to prepare

  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Jot down any questions you want answered

Drones, thermal imaging and Jordans roofs

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. About 5 miles north-east lies Chenies Manor House, a reminder of how long the area around Jordans has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.

If you look after a building like Jordans School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

FAQs for Jordans

Are there drone restrictions around Jordans?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

How do I find out if my home in Jordans is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

Do you look in the loft space?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

What do I do with the report?

You’ll get the report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only when it is safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to, and the report makes that clear.

Before and after the survey

Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. A few suggestions:

  • Book early if you are near an airport
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. Drone photographs are included where we could fly.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Jordans?

Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed one of these:

  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls

Take an older house close to Church of Holy Trinity: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

Before you book anyone

  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • Their insurance cover
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection

What a good roof survey covers

Honest limits

To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
