Our drone roof survey service in Buckinghamshire
Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. If a drone is not the right tool, we will say so. Typical surveys look at hidden gutters full of leaves and coverings that have slipped high up on the roof, across fragile roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs.
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Book a survey
Booking is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email, let us know about the property and we’ll recommend the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.
Local landmarks in Aylesbury
We work in homes and buildings around Buckinghamshire UTC, Stocklake Park Community School and The Derby Arms Public House and the streets around them. Other local landmarks include Bearbrook Combined School (0.5 miles west) and Church of St Mary (within half a mile north). There is a railway station in Aylesbury itself: Aylesbury station. Well-known places in the area include Roald Dahl Children's Gallery (less than half a mile east) and Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital (within half a mile north). Open spaces near Aylesbury include Coombe Hill.
Drone roof surveys across Buckinghamshire: local notes
Weather matters for both drones and thermal imaging across Buckinghamshire: a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day with little wind.
From inner London terraces to Kent oast houses, Sussex tile-hanging and Hampshire thatch, the South East has a huge mix of roofs. Buckinghamshire is part of that mix.
Aylesbury: For businesses in and around places such as Friars Square, large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see from the air or with a thermal camera. Take a building like Buckinghamshire UTC: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
For landlords and managing agents
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too. Larger roofs take longer.
Checking the roof from ground level
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
How we price drone roof surveys
We confirm the price for the job before you book. This is what makes a difference:
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- How big the roof is
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
Prices start from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we’ll tell you which fits.
Booking your survey
When you call or email, these details help:
- The kind of building and roof involved
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- Anything about access we should know
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Leave it or get it looked at?
Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. Close-up photos show what’s really there. It is far easier to plan work when you can see the problem.
What to check before booking
- How long they’ve been surveying roofs
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- Is VAT included in the price?
- Their insurance cover
How the survey changes by roof type
Large commercial roofs
Older cement sheet roofs may contain asbestos. We flag it in the report and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.
Questions from Buckinghamshire
Is this a RICS survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.
Do drone rules differ in central London?
It depends where in central London. Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas that need NATS permission. We check each address first, and fall back on other viewpoints if we can’t fly.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.
What happens after the survey?
You’ll receive the report by email, and what you do next is up to you: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Bad weather means no flight. Wind and heavy rain are the two things that ground a small drone, so a new date is agreed with you.
Can the drone do thermal imaging?
No, the drone survey is photographic. Thermal imaging is a separate check in the Premium Survey, and its findings are checked with moisture readings.
Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?
It depends on the airspace at your address. Inside a flight restriction zone, we need permission first. Book early if you think you may be affected.
