Drone roof survey in Booker

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs cannot always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photographs of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly, including slopes that cannot be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we cannot fly, we tell you why. If you’re worried about moss and weeds taking hold up top and cracked mortar along the ridge, we can find out what’s behind it.

Around Booker, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.

The report does not just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

Booker: your questions answered

Is Booker within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our area covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Booker?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?

Near airports like Heathrow, Gatwick, London City and Stansted, flight restriction zones apply. We check the airspace for your address and seek permission where it’s needed. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

What do I do with the report?

The report arrives by email, with photographs and clear recommendations. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

What does a roof survey cost?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access.

What we are asked to look at in Booker

Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Older slates and tiles break easily, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.

We are often asked to look at:

  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls

If you live in an older home near Church of Christ the Servant King, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What to check before booking

  • What happens after the report arrives
  • What exactly goes into their report
  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone

What a roof survey includes

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.

What we check

  • Chimney stacks
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

What happens if roof problems are left?

On a tall building, problems are frequently found only when water comes in. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. A drone survey finds them sooner. Around Booker, a leak in an older house can soak into timbers and plaster, and that’s a much bigger job than the original defect.

All our prices include VAT. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for the job before booking.

Why book with us

  • Drone flown under a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • An independent look at the roof
  • Two decades and more of roof surveys
  • Weekday and weekend surveys

The survey, step by step

On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely. Most surveys take an hour or two at a typical home, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Homes around Booker often have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. Inside, the loft is looked at where it can be reached safely.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
  4. We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Jot down any questions you want answered

When you’re ready to go ahead, call 07833 053749 or send us an email. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day, weekday or weekend.

Drones, thermal imaging and Booker roofs

Booker is about 1 mile from Wycombe Air Park, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

West Wycombe Park House lies about 1.6 miles north, so building around Booker goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. Anyone responsible for a site like Booker Hill School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Booker is about 2 miles west of High Wycombe, in Buckinghamshire. Booker gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a proper look at what can safely be seen, photographs and a clear written report. Our Buckinghamshire coverage includes Booker and the places around it. Reading is in our area too.

We cover every part of HP12, HP11 and SL7 for drone roof surveys and the streets around it. Streets in the area include Ash Road, New Road and Horns Lane, and we cover them all. Other places close to Booker include Clayhill (1 mile south-west), High Wycombe (2 miles east), Downley (2 miles north), Terriers (3 miles north-east) and Totteridge (3 miles east). Useful tips for Booker property owners

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:

  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Let us know the exact address as you book
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns

We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.
