About our drone roof survey in East Claydon
Before any flight, we check the airspace. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. Common reasons to book are vegetation in valleys and gutters and worn lead at chimneys and walls, across tall and steep roofs, large and complex roofs and fragile roofs.
Somewhere as small as East Claydon, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
Most points in the report come with a picture, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Roof by roof
Chimney stacks
The drone shows the outside of the stack, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If the flue needs a specialist, we’ll tell you.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Leaks frequently start at outlets, edges and around plant. We photograph them closely, as far as the flight allows.
Common questions in East Claydon
Does a conservation area affect roof work in East Claydon?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Is East Claydon within the area you cover?
Yes, East Claydon is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Airspace, weather and East Claydon roofs
Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
Anyone responsible for a site like East Claydon Church of England School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Historic houses such as Claydon House, about 1.2 miles west, show how far back building around East Claydon goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof itself. Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Tips that help
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Let us know about any leaks or concerns
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Check the loft can be reached
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.
Every so frequently, look in the loft space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.
What this survey cannot tell you
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.
What we look at
- Large and complex roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
What we do, step by step
Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a photo-illustrated written report, emailed to you. As for time on site, most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere like East Claydon needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
How to prepare
- Tell us about parking before the day
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Jot down any questions you want answered
How to book

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
We confirm the price for your roof before booking. These are the things that affect it:
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The roof’s overall size
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both with VAT included. We confirm the price for your survey before you book.
What to tell us when you get in touch
Before you get in touch, it helps to have:
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Anything about access we should know
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
A quick phone call is usually the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
