About our drone roof survey in Whiteleaf
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, fragile roofs and chimney stacks, and people most often book us about flat roofs on upper floors that hold water and moss and weeds taking hold up top.
Older buildings in small places like Whiteleaf may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photographs show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

How the survey works
Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a photo-illustrated written report, sent to you by email. On timing, it typically takes about 1–2 hours for a house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Around Whiteleaf, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Tell us about parking before the day

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Whiteleaf
Large roofs take a long time to see on foot. The drone covers the surface area by area, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.
We are frequently asked to look at:
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Chimney tops in poor condition
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Dunstan, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

Different roofs, different checks
Steep slate and tile slopes
Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. The drone sees them without touching them, so the survey does not add damage.
Chimney stacks
From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. Each defect is photographed for the report.
Landlords, agents and block managers in Whiteleaf
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.
Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it when booking and we will plan the visit with that in mind.
Drone roof surveys in Whiteleaf: local notes
Some villages in Buckinghamshire still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
For site and facilities teams at buildings like Monks Risborough CofE Primary School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

FAQs for Whiteleaf
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Whiteleaf?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Will you come out to Whiteleaf?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
When does the report arrive?
Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when you book.
What does the report include?
It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, with photographs throughout. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.
What insurance do you have?
We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, like cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.
