How a drone roof survey works in Askett

Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we’re there to survey. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, chimney stacks and tall and steep roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are flat roofs on upper floors that hold water and gaps where slates or tiles have gone.

Somewhere as small as Askett, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, with a note and a photo for each point. You will see the good as well as the bad.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
  • Which survey package you book
  • House, block, shop or office

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

Helping us price your survey

Getting the details right at the start saves time. Please include:

  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Anything about access we should know

Every survey is priced before it’s booked, so you know the cost up front. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. For a price for your roof, call 07833 053749 or email us.

What happens on the day

Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, take photographs as we go and make notes for the report. Most visits take an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a hamlet or village like Askett, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

How to prepare

Why get it checked now?

Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Older cottages and farmhouses around Askett can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and the package you choose.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Askett

Will you come out to Askett?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

Is drone flying allowed in Askett?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

When does the report arrive?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

How long will you be at the property?

Time on site depends on the roof; most visits take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The written report follows by email.

How experienced are you?

We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.

How do I book a survey in Askett?

Just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day, weekday or weekend.

Airspace, weather and Askett roofs

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent.

Take a building like Monks Risborough CofE Primary School: big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Askett

Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps with budgets and planning.

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Askett?

Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. We fly from ground level and bring the camera close to the roof.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Chimney tops in poor condition
  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt

The streets around a church such as Church of St Dunstan are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How soon the report will arrive
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • What experience they bring

What’s in a roof survey

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
