Thermal Roof Survey in Askett
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof across Askett, using drones and thermal imaging where it applies. Get in touch for a price.
- Missing or slipped insulation
- Cold areas below the roof
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
Checking the roof from ground level
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Thermal roof survey in Askett: what you get
Thermal imaging is useful when a damp patch has no clear cause. Water can travel some distance under a roof covering before it shows inside, and the camera can show patterns that help us follow it. We combine the images with a visual inspection and moisture readings, so no conclusion rests on one method alone. If you are worried about wet insulation beneath the membrane and ceilings that feel colder in places, we can find out what’s behind it, on loft conversions, commercial roofs and pitched roof slopes alike.
Some older homes in villages like Askett are listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Most points in the report come with a picture, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Thermal roof surveys in Askett: local notes
If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so the council is the place to ask.
Anyone responsible for a site like Monks Risborough CofE Primary School will know that big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

When to book a survey in Askett
Unexplained damp is one of the main reasons people ask for thermal imaging. Water can travel under a roof covering or along timbers before it shows inside. Temperature patterns can help narrow down where to look.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Gaps in loft insulation
If you live in an older home near Church of St Dunstan, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- How soon the report will arrive
- What happens after the report arrives
- Are they insured for the work?
Tips that help
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:
- Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
- File the images with your roof records
- Note where damp appears and after what weather
- Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing
You also get an in-person consultation with a Premium Survey, giving you the chance to talk through the images and findings. There is a 12-month follow-up too.
Consider a repeat survey after major work on the roof in suitable weather.

FAQs for Askett
Is Askett within the area you cover?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Do you cover Askett?
Yes, Askett is within the area we cover. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us about the property, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?
The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Differences can suggest wet areas, missing insulation or heat loss, and we check them with moisture readings.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.
Do I need to be at home?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed when you book.
What does the report include?
It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, backed by photographs. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too.
How it works
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Cottages and farmhouses around Askett often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
- We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can be seen safely.
- A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.
Before the survey
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
