Thermal roof surveys in Meadle: local notes
Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand.

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Meadle
A thermal survey is not a quick fix for every roof problem. It shows surface temperature, and things like sun, shade, reflections and wind all affect the readings. That’s why we check findings with moisture readings and a close visual inspection. Our report says plainly what the camera picked up and how sure we can be. If a finding can’t be confirmed, the report suggests a next step. We survey insulated roof spaces, loft conversions and commercial roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are leaks far from where the stain appears and areas of a flat roof that may hold water.
Somewhere as small as Meadle, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What happens if roof problems are left?
Before replacing a large flat roof, it helps to know how much of it is actually wet. Thermal imaging, checked with moisture readings, gives a clearer picture before you spend. Older and listed buildings around Meadle may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.

When you need someone else
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- An energy rating for the building
- Proving moisture from the images alone
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will point you to the right survey. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers
- Commercial roofs
- Pitched roof slopes
- Loft conversions
- Ceilings below the roof
- Flat roofs
- Insulated roof spaces
Prices for thermal roof surveys in Meadle
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before booking.
Booking your survey
You don’t need to know any roofing terms. It is enough to tell us:
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
Our phone lines are open seven days a week. For a price or to book, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
The survey, step by step
We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take between one and two hours at a typical home, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. For a village or hamlet like Meadle, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- We check the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
- A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- You get a report with thermal images, photographs and our recommendations.
How to prepare
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Jot down any questions you want answered

Advice
FAQs for Meadle
How do I find out if my home in Meadle is listed?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Meadle?
We do. The survey and report are the same in Meadle as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Will the camera show exactly where the water is?
Thermal imaging shows temperature rather than water. Wet insulation holds heat longer than dry, so it can stand out, but we check each finding with moisture readings.
What will the report tell me?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos. Points are put in order of urgency where relevant.
What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?
The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Unusual patterns can point to trapped water, gaps in insulation or heat escaping, which we then check with moisture readings.
What happens after the survey?
The report comes by email, and you decide the next step: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it doesn’t include calculations. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
Useful tips for Meadle property owners
There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:
- Keep a record of when stains appear
- Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
- Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing
- Keep dated photos of any marks on ceilings
We note the weather and surface conditions, and how they may have affected the results. That way you know how much weight to give each finding.
After repairs or a new covering, a later survey can confirm things are dry, when the conditions are suitable.
What we are asked to look at in Meadle
Buyers sometimes want more than a visual look at the roof. A Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, a drone inspection where it applies and a same-day report, which suits a purchase that is moving quickly.
People normally book a survey when they’ve noticed something like this:
- Leaks that are hard to trace
- Missing or slipped insulation
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
The streets around a church such as Owlswick Chapel are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Before you book anyone
