Tips from our surveys

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed

If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.

Every so frequently, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.

How a drone roof survey works in Mop End

Prices start from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where it applies, is also part of our Premium Survey, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. We survey fragile roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and valleys and parapet gutters, and people most often book us about slates or tiles shifted by high winds and plant growth and moss on the roof.

Older buildings in small places like Mop End may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

FAQs for Mop End

Do you cover smaller places like Mop End?

Yes, we do. We work right across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Is drone flying allowed in Mop End?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we will recommend one.

Do I need to be at home?

It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we’ll agree the details when booking.

How fast do I get the report?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed, ready to forward.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only if it’s safe. We check everything that can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. Anything we can’t see is noted in the report.

What we do, step by step

The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the loft space if there is safe access. All told, expect about 1–2 hours for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. Older rural homes like those around Mop End can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

What a drone roof survey does not cover

Before you book, it’s worth knowing what a survey won’t do:

  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.

Flying and imaging in Mop End

Hughenden Manor lies about 4.1 miles west, so building around Mop End goes back a long way. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Curzon Church of England Combined School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Take an older house close to Church of the Holy Trinity: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
