How a drone roof survey works in Pond Park
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. Common reasons to book are loose ridge and hip tiles and hidden gutters full of leaves, across flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and large and complex roofs.
Places like Pond Park can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.
The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Before and after the survey
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Make sure the loft can be reached
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.
When you need someone else
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.
What we check
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Fragile roofs
- Large and complex roofs
What we do, step by step
We will ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. A visit to a smaller place like Pond Park is no different on the day: we look from the ground, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it’s safe. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
Getting a price
Not sure which survey you need? The easiest way is to call 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We will explain the options and the price.
Advice
Common roof problems in Pond Park
Many roofs are never seen properly from the ground. You can’t see the back slope, the valleys or the chimney tops. Problems in those places often go unseen until they leak.
It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
Historic houses such as Cholesbury Manor House, about 3 miles north-west, show how far back building around Pond Park goes. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- What insurance they carry
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- Their track record with similar roofs
Pond Park: your questions answered
Is drone flying allowed in Pond Park?
Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Will you come out to Pond Park?
Yes, Pond Park is covered. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it is safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs cannot always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
What does the report include?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, and ends with what we recommend. Points are put by urgency where it matters.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, if whoever owns or manages the building agrees access. We look at the parts we’re given access to, and the report makes that clear.
How long is the visit?
It usually takes an hour or two at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof. We will confirm the timing as you book.
For landlords and managing agents
Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, with the most urgent items set out first.

Roof by roof
Chimney stacks
Our drone check of a chimney is visual, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. We will say if a specialist is needed.
Steep slate and tile slopes
Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. A drone avoids that, so the survey does not add damage.

Airspace, weather and Pond Park roofs
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
Take a building like Ivingswood Academy: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
