How a drone roof survey works in Saunderton Lee

Drone roof surveys are available in Saunderton Lee and throughout London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address. If you’re worried about loose ridge and hip tiles and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

Somewhere as small as Saunderton Lee, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

The survey, step by step

You do not need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, like stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Older rural homes like those around Saunderton Lee can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch

Advice

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan.

Landlords and letting agents in Saunderton Lee book surveys as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

It is useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us as you book, as it helps us focus the survey.

What we are asked to look at in Saunderton Lee

Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Older slates and tiles break easily, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.

People usually book a survey when they’ve noticed something like this:

  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
  • Flashings that have come away
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted

The streets around a church such as Church of St John the Evangelist are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • Will the report include photos?
  • Whether you can ask questions once you have the report

What’s in a roof survey

Roof by roof

Ridges and hips

The ridge takes wind from both sides. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Flat roofs on tall buildings are frequently seen by nobody. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Saunderton Lee

How do I find out if my home in Saunderton Lee is listed?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Saunderton Lee?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We will talk about access as you book.

What do I do with the report?

The report arrives by email. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We carry out surveys seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

How experienced are you?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.

How long does the survey take?

Expect it to take about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The written report follows by email, on the timescale of your package.

Tips that help

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:

  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps

File the report and photos with your home documents. They give you something to compare against later.

After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
