Drone roof survey in Westcott, Buckinghamshire
Find out what’s going on with the roof before you spend money on it. Drone roof surveys in Westcott.
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Vegetation in valleys and gutters
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
Can I check my roof myself?
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
It is useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when booking and it will help the survey.
Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Westcott
Every flight starts with an airspace check. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. We survey chimney stacks, tall and steep roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are plant growth and moss on the roof and ridge and hip pieces working loose.
Villages like Westcott often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

Roof by roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Walking on fragile coverings can break them. The drone sees them without touching them.
Ridges and hips
Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. We record what we see of their condition.
Signs you need a drone roof survey in Westcott
Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. We fly from ground level and bring the camera close to the roof.
It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Vegetation in valleys and gutters
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Westcott
Is my home in Westcott listed or in a conservation area?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Will you come out to Westcott?
Yes, Westcott is covered. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.
When does the report arrive?
Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when booking.
Does your drone take thermal images?
Not as part of the drone survey, which is about close-up photos. Thermal imaging is a separate check in the Premium Survey.
Are you structural engineers?
No. Visible signs like deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.
Are there drone restrictions in central London?
In some places, only with permission. Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas that need NATS permission. Every address is checked first, and fall back on other viewpoints if we cannot fly.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission

What we check
- Fragile roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Large and complex roofs
How the survey works
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photos, sent to you by email. On timing, most surveys take between one and two hours at a typical home, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Older roofs in small places like Westcott can have low, tight loft spaces, so it is useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it’s safe.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Getting ready for the survey
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Clear the way to the loft hatch

Why get it checked now?
Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It helps when you plan ahead. For an older or listed building in a place like Westcott, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.
