Storm damage roof report in Westcott

Our storm damage report starts from £150. You get a written report with photos by email. It doesn’t price the repairs, so ask a roofer to quote for the work. The insurer may still send a loss adjuster of its own. What you get is an independent record of the damage and what seems to have caused it. We’re often asked to look into holes or cracks caused by debris and torn or lifted flat roof coverings, on flat roofs, flashings and ridges and hips.

Roofs in small places like Westcott frequently stand in the open, so storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hard. Damp in old stone, brick or timber walls is slow to dry out, so it pays to find the cause quickly. A record with photos is useful if you need to show the damage to anyone else.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

Storm damage roof reports in Westcott: local notes

A number of Buckinghamshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in. The wider area around Westcott has a long history of building, with Waddesdon Manor about 0.9 miles east. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

If you look after a building like Westcott Church of England School, tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back. If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney. Landlords with a home close to Aylesbury Vale Parkway station may find that finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused.

Westcott is about 6 miles west of Aylesbury, in Buckinghamshire. We survey roofs in Westcott and the rest of Buckinghamshire. We cover towns and villages across Buckinghamshire, from the larger towns to small villages. For surveys nearby, see our Oxford page.

Clay and concrete tiles

Broken or missing tiles leave the underlay exposed to rain. Each gap is recorded with a photo.

Flat roof coverings

On flat roofs, storms can lift edges and tear membranes. We record any damage and where it is.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Westcott

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out by urgency where it matters, which helps when budgeting.

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed in advance. We survey on weekdays and at weekends, which can make access easier.

What a storm damage roof report doesn’t cover

It is useful to know what a survey will not do before you book:

  • Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
  • How your policy defines a storm
  • Repair costs or quotes for the work

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Ridges and hips
  • Flashings
  • Flat roofs
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Chimney stacks

How the survey works

Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings as a written report with photos. As for time on site, most surveys take an hour or two for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Somewhere as small as Westcott, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. You let us know what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
  2. Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
  3. We view the roof from safe positions.
  4. We record fresh damage and older defects.
  5. You receive the written report with photographs.

Before we arrive

  • If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
  • Let us know about parking near the property

Westcott: your questions answered

Is my home in Westcott listed or in a conservation area?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Do you cover smaller places like Westcott?

Yes. Westcott is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.

Can I challenge a declined storm claim?

Complain to your insurer first. If you are still unhappy, you may be able to take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service. An independent report can add to your evidence, though we can’t predict the outcome.

What do I do if water is coming in?

A roofer should handle temporary protection. If it is safe, take photos before it goes on. Our report then records the roof.

Are you loss adjusters?

No. We aren’t loss adjusters and do not act for you with the insurer. We give you an independent report of the damage for you to send to your insurer.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.

Will you walk on the roof?

Not unless it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports

Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • The roof’s overall size

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £150, including VAT.

Getting in touch

A little information up front helps. Please include:

  • What made you get in touch
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is

Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

Can I check my roof myself?

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when booking, as it helps us focus the survey.
