Our roof survey service in HP18
We inspect what can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows, from the loft space and from the roof where conditions allow. Premium adds thermal imaging, plus a drone inspection where applicable, for roofs that are hard to see well. You do not need to do anything except give us access. Each defect we find is photographed and explained. We’re often asked to look into cracked mortar along the ridge and slates or tiles that have slipped or broken, on flat roofs, ridges, hips and valleys and natural slate.
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. The whole visit usually takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time.
- We start with the property details and any concerns.
- We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
- Outside, we inspect from the ground, windows and other safe vantage points, and from the roof where safe.
- We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
- You receive the report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency.
What affects the price in HP18
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

How to book
Not sure which survey you need? It’s easiest to phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.
Around Long Crendon
We work in homes and buildings around The Eight Bells Public House, Long Crendon School and Church of St Mary. For rail, the closest station is Haddenham & Thame Parkway station, roughly 2.3 miles east of the centre. Nearby you will also find Dinton Castle (4.7 miles east) and Thame Community Hospital (2.4 miles south-east). Not far away are Snakemoor.
Roof surveys across HP18: local notes
Across HP18, lots of older houses still have chimney stacks, used or not, and their flashings and pointing need checking like any other part of the roof. Valleys, gutters and fixings follow close behind.
Across London and South East England, older homes frequently have slate or clay tiles, while many later ones have concrete tiles, and flat-roofed extensions and dormers are common everywhere. That variety shapes every survey in HP18.
Long Crendon: If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs. For landlords with property near Haddenham & Thame Parkway station, a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak.
What we are asked to look at in HP18
Wherever a roof meets a wall, a chimney or another roof, a flashing keeps water out. Lead can crack, lift or slip with age, and mortar fillets crack away from the wall. Lead is also a target for theft.
We are frequently asked to look at:
- Ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Lifted, split or missing lead flashings
- Valley linings that have cracked or split
Honest limits
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- Walls, floors and services below the roof
- Faults hidden behind ceilings or boarding
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
Why act early?
A small roof defect normally gets bigger. A single gap lets water onto the timbers underneath, and wet timber starts to decay. Catching it early means less to put right.
What to check before booking
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- Whether the price includes VAT
- Will the report include photos?
For landlords and managing agents
If you own several properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To discuss a number of properties, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the addresses.
Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Prices for roof surveys in HP18
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before booking.
Helping us price your survey
Some details help us point you to the right survey and price. When you contact us, let us know:
- What made you get in touch
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Dates you are working to, like exchange
- The property’s address and postcode
You can call us seven days a week. For a price or to book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
HP18 questions
What does a roof survey include?
All the main parts of the roof: the slates or tiles, ridges, valleys, flashings, chimneys, gutters and roof space. Higher packages add moisture detection, structural checks, thermal imaging and a drone where applicable.
How much does a roof survey cost in HP18?
Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, confirmed before anything is booked.
Can you inspect a terraced or semi-detached roof?
Yes, the part you own or can give access to. Next door’s roof is only inspected as far as we can see it. Shared stacks and upstands are looked at from your property.
Will you check the loft?
Typically, if there’s one and it can be reached safely. The loft space can show things the outside can’t, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.
Do I need to be at home?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed as you book.
Does a roof survey replace a structural engineer?
No. Where we see something that needs a structural engineer, the report says so. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.
