How a roof survey works in HP22
People book a roof survey for all sorts of reasons. Some have seen a mark on a ceiling or bits of tile in the garden, others want a check before selling or after years without one. The approach is the same in each case: we inspect carefully and explain what we see in writing. Visits run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, so it’s easy to find a day that suits. We’re often asked to look into lifted, split or missing lead flashings and valley linings that have cracked or split, across clay and concrete tiles, the roof space and ridges, hips and valleys.
We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. Most surveys take about one to two hours on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours.
- You pick the package that suits your roof.
- On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
- We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- The report is emailed with findings and recommendations.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters across HP22
From Wendover, Broughton and Aston Clinton to its smaller places, buildings across HP22 have roofs of every age. Chimneys, valleys, flashings and gutters are usually where the work is.
Even in the South East, autumn and winter storms find any loose slate, tile or ridge. Ridges, verges and flashings in HP22 are where it usually shows.
Wendover: Take a building like The John Hampden School: large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. If you own a rental within reach of Wendover station, knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints.
Surveys for landlords and agents in HP22
We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. A photo-illustrated written report gives you a clear record of the roof, which helps you plan work between tenancies.

- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone

Getting in touch
There’s no need for technical words. Just tell us:
- What made you get in touch
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from the ground or a window. To get started, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
When you need someone else
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
- An exact number of years the roof has left
- Asbestos testing of any kind
Checking the roof from the ground
It’s useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Before and after the survey
There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Clear the loft hatch area before we arrive
- Have details of recent roof work to hand
- Ask about a flat roof on an extension or garage too
- Mention any damp patches as you book
Premium comes with a follow-up after 12 months. It helps you see whether anything has changed.
After a storm, check the roof from the garden and the street. Slipped slates, lifted ridge tiles or pieces in the garden are signs something has moved. Getting small faults fixed quickly keeps water out.
Common questions in HP22
What’s the best way to book?
To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us the address and what you want to find out. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.
Can you look at a roof that is joined to next door?
Yes, the part you own or can give access to. Next door’s roof is only inspected as far as we can see it. Shared stacks and upstands are looked at from your property.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain asbestos. We flag materials that could contain it, and a specialist asbestos surveyor should check them.
How soon is the report ready?
Premium reports arrive the same day, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Each report includes photos.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Let us know about it as you book and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
Are you insured?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.
