- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
- Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Long Crendon
Thermal imaging can also show where a roof is losing heat. Missing or slipped insulation and gaps at the eaves often show up as temperature differences. It works best when the building is heated and it is colder outside. Our report points out what the images suggest and where to look more closely. It isn’t an energy rating or a heat loss calculation. We survey flat roofs, insulated roof spaces and loft conversions, and people most often book us about damp around roof outlets and upstands and areas of a flat roof that may hold water.
In smaller places like Long Crendon, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from ground level. The parts you can’t see, like rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. Both depend on the weather on the day. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from the ground.
The report does not just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

How we price thermal roof surveys
We confirm the price for the job before booking. These are the things that affect it:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Roof area
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.
Booking your survey
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- Anything about access we should know
- The kind of building and roof involved
- What made you get in touch
- The property’s address and postcode
Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will talk you through the options and what they cost.
What we look for on each type of roof
Pitched slate and tile roofs
Even on pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp. We explain what can and can’t be read from them.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
On big single-ply roofs, the camera helps show where to take readings. It focuses the survey on the areas that matter.
Questions from Long Crendon
Is Long Crendon within the area you cover?
Yes, Long Crendon is covered. Our area covers London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Is my home in Long Crendon listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Do you use drones?
Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Does thermal imaging work on slate and tile roofs?
On pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp patterns. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.
Will the camera show exactly where the water is?
Not directly. It shows surface temperature, and wet areas can show up because they hold heat differently. That’s why we check any patterns with moisture readings.
Airspace, weather and Long Crendon roofs
If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.
If you look after a building such as Long Crendon School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out by urgency where it matters, which helps when budgeting.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.
Tips that help
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:
- Make sure the loft can be reached safely
- File the images with your roof records
- Keep a record of when stains appear
- Talk to us about the weather when booking
If the images suggest moisture that can’t be confirmed, we will say what would help next, like electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.
Make sure loft insulation covers the whole area and hasn’t been disturbed. Gaps frequently appear after work in the loft.
How the survey works
The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photographs go into the written report. The visit normally takes between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. In a smaller place like Long Crendon, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. Low roofs on bungalows can often be seen well from ground level, and the loft shows the rest, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where applicable.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Preparing for the visit
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Keep pets in another room
