Gutter survey in Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire
Not sure what state the gutter is in? We carry out gutter surveys in Long Crendon and across Buckinghamshire, with plain-English findings.
- Water spilling over the gutter edge
- Dripping or leaking gutter joints
- Blocked outlets and hoppers
Gutter survey in Long Crendon
Most blocked gutters are full of leaves, moss or silt. Buildings near trees collect more and moss from the roof slopes makes it worse. We note where gutters are clogged or holding water and where outlets or hoppers are choked and whether overflows are working. The photos show you exactly what we found. It is an easy job to put off, but they rarely get better. Typical surveys look at overflowing eaves gutters and brackets that have dropped or snapped, across parapet and box gutters, valley gutters and downpipes.
In a smaller place like Long Crendon, homes range from older cottages to bungalows and newer houses. Older roofs can have slate, clay tiles or other traditional coverings, while many later ones have concrete tiles. On older homes, chimney stacks, valleys and gutters are normally where the work is, and the fixings under the coverings matter too. The fixings under an older roof often fail before good slates or tiles do.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Tips from our surveys
Small things make a difference. Our tips:
- Look for new stains on ceilings below valleys after rain
- Keep climbers away from the eaves
- Watch the gutters during heavy rain
- Check from the ground or a window, not a ladder
How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. We email it to you once it is done.
Look at the gutters from indoors or the ground when it pours. Water spilling over the edge or out of a joint is a sign that something needs attention before the walls suffer.
The survey, step by step
Photos are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. A typical visit takes between one and two hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. A visit to a smaller place like Long Crendon is no different on the day: we look from ground level, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it is safe. It’s useful to show us anything you’ve already noticed.
- We start by hearing about any drips, overflows or damp patches.
- Gutters, downpipes, fascias and soffits are inspected from safe vantage points.
- Any valley, parapet or box gutters are looked at as far as safe access allows.
- We look in the roof space, where there’s safe access, for signs of water getting in.
- We send a written report with photos and clear recommendations.
How to prepare
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Questions from Long Crendon
I let a flat near Haddenham & Thame Parkway station. Can you check the roof?
Yes, that is a common request. We just need to know who will give access, and we can send the report to you or your agent.
Do you cover smaller places like Long Crendon?
Yes, Long Crendon is covered. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
Does someone need to be in?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We will talk about access when you book.
Will you look at parapet and box gutters as well?
Yes. Hidden gutters are a common cause of leaks inside, so they’re an important part of the survey. Some may only be partly visible, and we will note that in the report.
Is there a good time of year to book a gutter survey?
Whenever suits you. If water is already spilling over, book sooner rather than later as overflowing water can damage walls.
How long will you be on site?
Most visits to a house take about 1–2 hours, with commercial buildings nearer 3–4 hours.
Are you insured?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
What a gutter survey doesn’t cover
To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Confirming asbestos in older rainwater goods
- The inside of a downpipe along its whole length
- Damage hidden inside walls or behind boards
If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.

Checking the roof from the ground
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Long Crendon
A written report gives you a dated record of the gutters’ condition, useful when you are planning maintenance or getting work priced. Without it, you are relying on what can be seen from the pavement. On a bungalow or cottage around Long Crendon, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Catching the cause first saves redecorating as well.
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.
What you get with us

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Long Crendon
Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters.
Landlords with a home close to Haddenham & Thame Parkway station may find that the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at. Take a building like Long Crendon School: its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of St Mary, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.

How the survey changes by roof type
Fascias and soffits
Fascias carry the gutters, so a rotten fascia can let the gutter drop. We note soft, stained or damaged boards we can see.
Cast iron gutters
Cracks often open on the back of cast iron downpipes, so we check the wall behind for staining.
