Princes Risborough Gutter Survey
A survey of gutters, valleys, outlets and downpipes in Princes Risborough, carried out by an experienced roof surveyor. Every survey comes with a written report and photographs.
- Hoppers and outlets full of debris
- Soffits marked by water
- Gutters packed with leaves or moss
About our gutter survey in Princes Risborough
This survey covers rainwater above ground, from the gutters down to where the downpipes meet the ground. It is not a CCTV drain survey and we cannot see inside buried drains. Where water seems to be backing up from below ground, we’ll say so in the report, so you can get the drains checked separately. Anything we find above ground, such as a split hopper or a leaking downpipe, is photographed and recorded. We’re frequently asked to look into gutters full of debris and silt and downpipes that are split or coming away, across parapet and box gutters, outlets and hoppers and fascias and soffits.
In a smaller place like Princes Risborough, some roofs stand more exposed to wind and rain than in a built-up town. Ridge tiles, verges, chimney stacks and flashings take the worst of it. A close look shows whether anything has started to loosen. A loose ridge tile or slate gives the wind something to catch, and others soon follow.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What a gutter survey looks like in Princes Risborough
Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it’s listed or in a conservation area. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look.
Take a building like Princes Risborough School: large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. If you live in an older home near St Teresa's Church, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. If you let a flat or house near Princes Risborough station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.

What we need to know
Some details help us recommend the right survey and price. When you contact us, it helps to mention:
- What’s prompted the survey
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- The property’s address and postcode
- Where water is showing inside, if it is

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the addresses.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.
What you can safely check yourself
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.
How it works
Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and record our findings for the written report. It usually takes about 1–2 hours at a typical home, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Princes Risborough is booked with the forecast in mind: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from the ground and the loft can go ahead in most weather.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are looked at from ground level and windows.
- Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can safely be seen.
- Where it’s safe, we check the loft for signs of water.
- A report with photographs and recommendations follows.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep pets in another room
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
