How a storm damage roof report works in Ashendon

Our storm damage report starts from £150. It is a photo-illustrated written report, sent by email. It isn’t a repair quote and doesn’t include repair costs, so you will need a roofer’s quote for that. The insurer may still send a loss adjuster of its own. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause. Typical surveys look at damage from fallen branches or debris and torn or lifted flat roof coverings, across flashings, ridges and hips and chimney stacks.

Roofs in small places like Ashendon frequently stand in the open, so storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hard. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, so it pays to find the cause quickly. A written record also helps if you need to explain it to anyone else.

It is not only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

What affects the price in Ashendon

Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages

Prices start from £150, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we can help you choose.

Helping us price your survey

A little information up front helps. Please include:

  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • What made you get in touch

Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll explain the options and the price.

What we do, step by step

It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit usually takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. In a hamlet or village like Ashendon, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
  2. Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
  3. The roof is inspected from ground level, windows and the roof where it is safe.
  4. We record fresh damage and older defects.
  5. You receive the written report with photos.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

FAQs for Ashendon

Is Ashendon within the area you cover?

Yes. Ashendon is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is my home in Ashendon listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Will you go up on the roof?

Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs cannot always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where applicable and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.

Should I go up on the roof to take photos?

Please don’t climb onto the roof. Photograph the damage from below or from a window. Note the date and time, and photograph any damage inside.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you as you book.

How do I arrange a storm damage roof report in Ashendon?

What we’re asked to look at in Ashendon

Gusts work at anything on a roof that is loose or exposed. Rain can then blow in where slates or tiles have gone. Most people book a report soon after a storm, when they’ve seen damage or water has come in.

Here are some of the things we see often:

  • Damaged flat roof membrane
  • Damage from fallen branches or debris
  • New damp or leaks inside
  • Cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind

The streets around a church like Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What the survey won’t cover
  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • When you’ll get the report

What we look for on each type of roof

Slate roofs

After strong winds, we often see cracked and slipped slates. We photograph and describe each one.

Ridge and hip tiles

Worn mortar under ridge tiles can let them lift in a storm. Our report says whether it looks freshly damaged or worn over time.
