Drone roof survey in Ludgershall
They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. If a drone is not the right tool, we’ll say so. If you’ve noticed slipped or missing slates on a high roof and hidden gutters full of leaves, we can find out what’s behind it.
Villages like Ludgershall often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

The survey, step by step
Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a written report with photos, emailed to you. As for time on site, it usually takes an hour or two at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. Around Ludgershall, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

Advice
Drones, thermal imaging and Ludgershall roofs
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
Historic houses such as Boarstall Tower, about 3.1 miles south-west, show how far back building around Ludgershall goes. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mary, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Ludgershall
Is my home in Ludgershall listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Is Ludgershall within the area you cover?
Yes, Ludgershall is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.
How long does a drone roof survey take?
It typically takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. That includes the checks before the drone goes up.
Can you fly a drone in central London?
It depends where in central London. Restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs need NATS permission before a flight. Every address is checked first, and fall back on other viewpoints if we can’t fly.
How much is a survey?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, confirmed before anything is booked.
Can a drone see inside my loft?
No. It shows what’s on the outside. The underside tells us things the drone can’t, so we check the loft too where we can.
Checking the roof from ground level
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Roof by roof
Flat roofs on tall buildings
The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.
Valleys and parapet gutters
When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.
Honest limits
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- Flights in high wind or heavy rain
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.
What we look at

- Chimney stacks
- Large and complex roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors

- Tall and steep roofs
Useful tips for Ludgershall property owners
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. A few suggestions:
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Let us know what you want to see
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Shut pets inside while we fly
Your report arrives by email, with close-up photographs from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.
Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, especially in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
