Drone roof survey in Maids Moreton
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, tall and steep roofs and flat roofs on upper floors, and common reasons people get in touch are lead work pulling away at abutments and moss building up on slopes and in gutters.
Some older homes in villages like Maids Moreton are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, each with a short note and a photograph. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

Maids Moreton: your questions answered
Is my home in Maids Moreton listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Are there drone restrictions around Maids Moreton?
Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
How much does a drone roof survey cost in Maids Moreton?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the exact price before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
How experienced are you?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.
How quickly is the report sent?
Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed.
How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Maids Moreton?
To book, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us the address and what you’d like to know. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.
Do you look in the roof space?
If there’s a loft and safe access to it, yes. The loft space can show things the outside cannot, like damp timbers, staining or daylight.
Roof by roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Walking on fragile coverings can break them. The drone sees them without touching them.
Ridges and hips
Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- The size of the roof
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can be seen safely and the package you choose.
What we need to know
If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Tips from our surveys
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Check the loft can be reached
- Let us know what you want to see
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.
Keep the roof space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
How the survey works
We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a hamlet or village like Maids Moreton, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Preparing for the visit
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Advice
What you can safely check yourself
A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.
Drones, thermal imaging and Maids Moreton roofs
Some villages in Buckinghamshire still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
The streets around a church such as Church of St Edmund are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Stowe House, about 2.3 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Maids Moreton. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.

When to book a survey in Maids Moreton
Many roofs are never seen properly from the ground. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Problems in those places frequently go unseen until they leak.
Typical things we’re asked to look at include:
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
Take a building like Maids Moreton Church of England School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
