Drone Roof Survey in Naphill
Find out the condition of the roof at your property in Naphill from an independent roof surveyor. We visit on weekdays and at weekends.
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
When to book a survey in Naphill
Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. It is hard to tell from below what has shifted. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.
Typical things we’re asked to look at include:
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
Take a building like Naphill and Walters Ash School: big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- Their report turnaround times
- How long they’ve been surveying roofs
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Naphill
Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs cannot always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photographs of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. Everything we find goes into a written report with photos. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. We survey tall and steep roofs, large and complex roofs and flat roofs on upper floors, and people most frequently book us about blocked valleys and parapet gutters and eroded pointing on a chimney stack.
Older buildings in small places like Naphill may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
The report is written in plain words, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, and recommendations are put in order of urgency where relevant.

What else we do in Naphill
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
When we price a survey, we consider:
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Height and safe access
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
Helping us price your survey
You do not need to know any roofing terms. It’s enough to let us know:
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- How the loft is reached, if there is one

Questions from Naphill
Are there drone restrictions around Naphill?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.
Do you cover smaller places like Naphill?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
How much does a drone roof survey cost in Naphill?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it’s agreed before booking.
What will the report tell me?
A written report with photos, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, by urgency where it matters. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
How long is the visit?
It typically takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The written report follows by email, on the timescale of your package.
What happens next?
The report comes by email, and you decide the next step: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.
What we look for on each type of roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. The drone sees them without touching them.
Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from ground level. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.
What a drone roof survey does not cover
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.
Roof types and parts we check
- Chimney stacks
- Large and complex roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Tall and steep roofs
- Fragile roofs
The survey, step by step
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey normally takes about 1–2 hours for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Somewhere as small as Naphill, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Note where any stains or damp appear

Advice
Flying and imaging in Naphill
Hughenden Manor, about 1.5 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Naphill. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead. Some villages in Buckinghamshire still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
Shop and office owners around Eden may find that thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. Take an older house close to Church of St Botolph: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.
