How a drone roof survey works in Coombe
Drone roof surveys are available in Coombe and throughout London and the South East, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. We survey fragile roofs, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks, and people most often book us about cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and loose ridge and hip tiles.
Somewhere as small as Coombe, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Airspace, weather and Coombe roofs
We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
The streets around a church like Church of St Peter and St Paul are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. If you look after a building such as Great Kimble Church of England School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Coombe questions
Is drone flying allowed in Coombe?
Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
How do I find out if my home in Coombe is listed?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do you work in Coombe?
Yes. We carry out drone roof surveys in Coombe.
What insurance do you have?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
When does the report arrive?
Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.
What will the report tell me?
You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, finishing with recommendations. Points are put by urgency where it matters.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, which makes the report easy to follow.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Coombe
A drone record gives you a baseline. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It’s useful for planning maintenance over the years. For an older or listed building in a place like Coombe, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.

Can I check my roof myself?
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.

What we do, step by step
We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. The whole visit normally takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a small place like Coombe, access is usually the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Tell us about parking before the day
- Leave side gates unlocked
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
Booking a survey

Advice
Before and after the survey
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Let us know the exact address when you book
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
There’s a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit, and whether work has done its job.
Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
When you need someone else
In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- A structural engineer’s report
- Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.
