Independent drone roof surveys in Fern

Different roofs, different checks

Large commercial roofs

Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. The drone sees them without touching them.

About our drone roof survey in Fern

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs, and people most often book us about storm damage on steep or tall roofs and outlets choked with leaves and silt.

Somewhere as small as Fern, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned beforehand. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

How we price drone roof surveys

The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:

  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Building height and the viewpoints available

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and the package you choose.

What to let us know when you get in touch

Getting the details right at the start saves time. Please include:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
  • The property’s address and postcode

Booking is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or email us and give us some details about the property and we’ll explain which survey suits. We confirm the price before anything is booked.

Practical tips

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:

  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Tell us the exact address when booking
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that isn’t clear.

After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone can show exactly what has moved.

What we can’t see

This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

Questions from Fern

Are there drone restrictions around Fern?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.

Is my home in Fern listed or in a conservation area?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Do you take photos of the roof?

Yes. Photographs are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we do not carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.

Are you insured?

We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

What’s the best way to book?

Simply ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

Does the weather affect the survey?

It depends on the weather and the survey. In strong wind or a downpour, a drone can’t fly and access may not be safe, so we’d move the date with you.

What happens on the day

It’s useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit usually takes an hour or two on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In a hamlet or village like Fern, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch

Airspace, weather and Fern roofs

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. A number of Buckinghamshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.

If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of St John the Baptist, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Historic houses like Cliveden, about 2.7 miles south-east, show how far back building around Fern goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof itself.

Fern is about 2 miles north-east of Marlow, in Buckinghamshire. Fern is part of the area we cover as part of our work across London and South East England. Fern is one of the places in Buckinghamshire we cover. Our Reading page covers surveys nearby.

Close by, we survey roofs in Coldmoorholme (1 mile south-east), Little Marlow (1 mile south-west), Well End (1 mile south-east), Bourne End (1 mile south-east) and Flackwell Heath (1 mile north-east). Larger places within reach include High Wycombe (3 miles north), Chesham (10 miles north-east), Amersham (8 miles north-east), Beaconsfield (4 miles east), Chalfont St Peter (8 miles east) and Southcourt (15 miles north).

Well-known places in the area include High Wycombe Castle (3.1 miles north) and Chiltern Sound Phonograph Museum (2.3 miles south-west). For a walk, there is Warren Nature Reserve.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Fern?

Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. It’s hard to tell from below what has shifted. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Lifted or split lead flashings
  • Chimney tops in poor condition

Take a building like Little Marlow CofE School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
