Need a drone roof survey in Gerrards Cross?

Practical tips

You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:

  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.

How a drone roof survey works in Gerrards Cross

The weather decides whether a drone can fly. Strong wind or a downpour rules out a flight, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the weather turns, we will agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and people most frequently book us about ridge and hip pieces working loose and lead work pulling away at abutments.

Even in a smaller place like Gerrards Cross, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, and recommendations are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

Drones, thermal imaging and Gerrards Cross roofs

Denham Aerodrome is about 2 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas.

If you own one of the older houses in the streets near St James Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as The Gerrards Cross CofE School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Gerrards Cross is about 5 miles north-east of Slough, in Buckinghamshire. Gerrards Cross is part of the area we cover across London and South East England. Our area takes in places right across Buckinghamshire, large and small. You can also see our page for Reading.

We cover every part of SL9 for drone roof surveys and the streets around it. We cover properties on Station Road, East Common and Oxford Road and the roads around them. You will find Gerrards Cross on the A40 and A413, so it is easy for us to get to. Neighbouring places we cover for drone roof surveys include Tatling End (1 mile south-east), Fulmer (1 mile south), Hedgerley Green (2 miles west), Higher Denham (2 miles east) and Baker's Wood (2 miles east). Further out, we also cover High Wycombe (9 miles west), Chesham (9 miles north), Marlow (9 miles west), Amersham (7 miles north), Beaconsfield (4 miles north-west) and Princes Risborough (15 miles north-west).

Around Gerrards Cross

Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to St Mary's School, The Chalfonts Community College and Bulstrode Park and the streets around them. There is a railway station in Gerrards Cross itself: Gerrards Cross station. Other landmarks nearby include Chiltern Open Air Museum (3.8 miles north) and Chalfonts and Gerrards Cross Hospital (1.7 miles north). Not far away are Horse Shoe Bay and Church Wood.

What this survey can’t tell you

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • A structural engineer’s report

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.

What we look at

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

What we do, step by step

We look at the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the roof space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a smaller place like Gerrards Cross, as anywhere, the forecast plays a part: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Preparing for the visit

  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Check pets are kept safely away
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared

Advice

Gerrards Cross: your questions answered

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Gerrards Cross?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

Do you cover smaller places like Gerrards Cross?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.

Do drone rules differ in central London?

Central London has restricted areas where NATS permission is needed. If permission isn’t possible, we inspect by other means.

Can you fly a drone near an airport?

Only with the right permission. Confirmed flight restriction zones include Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Stansted, Luton and Southampton, among others, and a flight inside one needs the airport’s or air traffic control’s say-so. Without it, we inspect from other safe viewpoints.

Will you go up on the roof?

Not unless it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We point out what can be seen, like sagging or deflection, but we are not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

What about my neighbours’ privacy?

No, the camera is kept on your roof. Neighbouring homes and gardens are not the subject. A quick word with the neighbours is a good idea.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Gerrards Cross

With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the addresses.

Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. Recommendations are set out by urgency where it matters, which helps when budgeting.

Checking the roof from ground level

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book.

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

What a survey costs

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • The shape of the roof and its details

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Booking your survey

When you call or email, these details help:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them

Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To find a date that works for you, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and the days you’d prefer.
