Drone roof survey in Prestwood

Every flight starts with an airspace check. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If permission is not given, we inspect by other means and tell you. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. Typical surveys look at blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and eroded pointing on a chimney stack, across large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.

Even in a smaller place like Prestwood, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Prestwood questions

How do I find out if my home in Prestwood is listed?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

Will you come out to Prestwood?

Yes, Prestwood is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

How soon will I get the report?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email, ready to forward.

Can the drone do thermal imaging?

No, the drone survey is photographic. For thermal imaging, look at the Premium Survey or our thermal roof survey.

What’s the best way to book?

Simply call 07833 053749 or send us an email. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.

How long does a drone roof survey take?

Expect it to take an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. That includes checking the site and the weather before take-off.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.

How the survey changes by roof type

Ridges and hips

Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Felt often lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. Photos show how the covering is wearing.

Tips that help

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:

  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Let us know what you want to see

Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.

Drone roof surveys in Prestwood: local notes

Hughenden Manor, about 3.4 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Prestwood. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

The streets around a church such as Holy Trinity Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Prestwood

Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on:

  • Roof area
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

What to tell us when you contact us

A few details help us point you to the right survey and price. When you contact us, it is useful to mention:

  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one

Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to call 07833 053749 or send us an email and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We will explain the options and the price.

What we do, step by step

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take about one to two hours for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. Parking around Prestwood is usually easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from the ground, with the loft showing the underside.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Leave side gates unlocked

Advice

DIY checks: what’s safe

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

What we’re asked to look at in Prestwood

Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top
  • Standing water on a flat roof
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge

Anyone responsible for a site like Prestwood Junior School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
