New Zealand Drone Roof Survey

Close-up drone photographs of roofs that are hard to reach in New Zealand, carried out by an experienced roof surveyor. Every survey comes with a written report and photographs.

  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt
  • Lifted or split lead flashings
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted

Can I check my roof myself?

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

How a drone roof survey works in New Zealand

From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it cannot see inside. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft cannot be reached safely, we note it. If you are worried about outlets choked with leaves and silt and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

In a village or hamlet like New Zealand, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photograph. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Drones, thermal imaging and New Zealand roofs

An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.

Take an older house close to St Peter's: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. Take a building like Elmhurst School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Friars Square, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.

New Zealand is about 1 mile west of Elmhurst, in Buckinghamshire. Houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings in New Zealand can all book drone roof surveys. We cover towns and villages across Buckinghamshire. There’s also a page for Milton Keynes.

We survey roofs across HP19 and HP20 for drone roof surveys and the streets around it. That includes homes and businesses on Dunsham Lane, Drayton Road and Cannock Road and the roads around them. Close by, we survey roofs in Elmhurst (1 mile east), Aylesbury (1 mile south), Watermead (1 mile north-east), Quarrendon Estate (1 mile west) and California (1 mile south). Larger places within reach include High Wycombe (14 miles south), Chesham (12 miles south-east), Buckingham (14 miles north-west), Amersham (14 miles south-east), Princes Risborough (7 miles south) and Haddenham (6 miles south-west).

Around New Zealand

Typical jobs here are in homes near The New Zealand pub, Buckinghamshire UTC and The PACE Centre. For rail, the closest station is Aylesbury station, roughly 0.8 miles south of the centre. A little further out are Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital (under half a mile south) and Dinton Castle (3.8 miles south-west).

The survey, step by step

Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings in a report with photos, sent to you by email. As for time on site, most surveys take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Rural addresses near New Zealand can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear

How to book

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or send us an email whenever suits you.

New Zealand questions

Can you fly a drone over a roof in New Zealand?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in New Zealand?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We carry out surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

How long will you be at the property?

Most surveys take about one to two hours for most houses, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. We’ll confirm the timing when you book.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll explain what’s needed.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.

How soon will I get the report?

Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.

What we look for on each type of roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. Photos show how the covering is wearing.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. The drone sees them without touching them.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. You can show exactly where the problem is, which helps when you ask for quotes. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.

Why book us in New Zealand

  • Drone and thermal imaging surveys available
  • Surveys seven days a week

Before and after the survey

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:

  • Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Make sure the loft can be reached
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight

We email the report to you, with close-up photographs from the flight. Findings are set out in plain English, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.

Prices for drone roof surveys in New Zealand

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Which survey package you book
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

Booking your survey

There’s no need for technical words. It’s enough to let us know:

  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date

Every survey is priced before it’s booked, so you know where you stand. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. For a price for your roof, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
