About our drone roof survey in Little Chalfont

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. If a drone is not the right tool, we’ll say so. We survey fragile roofs, chimney stacks and flat roofs on upper floors, and common reasons people get in touch are cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water.

Even in a smaller place like Little Chalfont, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:

  • Flights in high wind or heavy rain
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

Drone roof surveys around Little Chalfont

Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

Chenies Manor House, about 1.5 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Little Chalfont. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. For an older house near a landmark such as St George's Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Little Chalfont is about 2 miles east of Amersham, in Buckinghamshire. In Little Chalfont, as across Buckinghamshire, every roof gets the same careful survey. Little Chalfont is one of the towns and villages in Buckinghamshire where we work for drone roof surveys. Our London page covers surveys nearby.

Surveys in HP6, HP7 and HP8 are booked the same way as anywhere else. Streets in the area include Chalfont Station Road, Loudhams Road and Clayton Walk, all of which we cover. How it works

We check the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the loft space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. The whole visit usually takes an hour or two at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. A visit to a smaller place like Little Chalfont is no different on the day: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. It helps to show us anything you’ve already noticed.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Advice

FAQs for Little Chalfont

Will you come out to Little Chalfont?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Little Chalfont?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Do I need to be at home?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.

What about my neighbours’ privacy?

We take care around neighbouring homes. The camera is pointed at your roof, not next door. It is worth telling neighbours about the flight.

What if my home is near an airport?

It depends on the airspace at your address. Inside a flight restriction zone, we need permission first. Allow a little extra time if your home is close to an airport.

What a survey costs

Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. The price for your roof depends on:

  • Roof area
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Helping us price your survey

We will typically ask about:

  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage

To get a price for drone roof surveys in Little Chalfont, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. The address, the type of property and what you’d like to know help us give you an accurate price.

Why it is worth a survey now in Little Chalfont

Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller. With lower homes, common in places like Little Chalfont, there’s little between a roof defect and the ceiling, so water can show inside quickly once it gets past the covering. Catching the cause first saves redecorating as well.

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Little Chalfont

Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge
  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls

Anyone responsible for a site like Dr Challoner's High School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Before booking anyone

  • Whether VAT is added on top
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one
  • When you’ll get the report

What’s in a roof survey

What we look for on each type of roof

Large commercial roofs

Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. They’re all captured in close-up, as far as the flight allows.
