New roof snagging for Little Chalfont homes and businesses

About our new roof snagging in Little Chalfont

We check the coverings, ridges, verges, hips and valleys plus flashings and roof ventilation. At the eaves we check how the underlay is dressed into the gutter, where it can be seen as well as the gutters. You get a photo report of what we found. Any debris left behind or damage to other parts is recorded too. We are frequently asked to look into gutters or fascias damaged during the job and underlay not dressed into the gutter, across ridges and verges, loft conversions and dormers and new flat roofs.

Around Little Chalfont, you will mostly find houses and bungalows of different ages. Older roofs may still have their original slates or clay tiles, with fixings and underlay that have done a long stint. For a purchase or a newly replaced roof, what’s under the coverings matters as much as what’s on top. Older roofs often have bitumen felt under the coverings, as breathable membranes only arrived in the late 1990s.

You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Buying a home or a new roof in Little Chalfont

About 1.5 miles east lies Chenies Manor House, a reminder of how long the area around Little Chalfont has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. For a purchase or a newly finished roof, the materials decide which details matter most.

Take an older house close to St George's Church: ask the seller about past roof repairs, because older roofs frequently have patched valleys, replaced slates and reset ridges. Landlords with a home close to Chalfont & Latimer station may find that a roof report gives you a clear picture before you buy or settle up with a roofer.

What this survey can’t tell you

In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Fixings and underlay hidden under the coverings
  • Parts of the roof we can’t see safely
  • Settling a dispute with your roofer or builder

If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

FAQs for Little Chalfont

Is my home in Little Chalfont listed or in a conservation area?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Do you cover smaller places like Little Chalfont?

Yes, Little Chalfont is covered. We work right across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.

How much time does a snagging visit need?

For a house, expect about 1–2 hours on site with commercial roofs nearer 3–4 hours.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only where it’s safe to do so. We look at everything that can safely be seen: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we can’t see is noted in the report.

Will you deal with my roofer if there’s a problem?

No, our role is to record the roof’s condition. Any dispute stays between you and your roofer or builder though our report gives you the facts we saw.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Let us know your preferred days when you book.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Some faults only show when water gets in. An inspection before that point gives you a record of the roof as handed over. Tradespeople may need to travel further to a smaller place like Little Chalfont, so it helps to plan roof work rather than call someone out in a hurry. A survey gives you that notice.

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

How the survey changes by roof type

Clay and concrete tiles

Tiled roofs often have snags at the verges and eaves. We check them closely.

Flashings

Flashings seal the roof to walls and chimneys. We check they’re dressed, fixed and pointed where they can be seen.

What we do, step by step

After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs, emailed to you. As for time on site, it normally takes about one to two hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. A visit to Little Chalfont is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed ahead of time. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.

  1. We start with what the roofer did and when they finished.
  2. The new coverings and roof edges are inspected as far as can safely be seen.
  3. Valleys, flashings, gutters and visible underlay at the eaves are checked.
  4. We check the loft where safe and look for debris or damage.
  5. Snags are listed in a written report with photographs.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

How to book

Our price is from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email to find out.

DIY checks: what’s safe

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we look at the roof.
