Storm damage roof report in Little Chalfont: what you get
After a storm, safety comes first. Photograph the damage from the ground or a window, and never climb up. Emergency temporary protection, such as covering an opening, is a job for a roofer. Our report records the damage so you have an independent record to give your insurer. Hold on to receipts for anything you pay for. We’re frequently asked to look into flat roof edges peeled back and damaged pots on the stack, across chimney stacks, flat roofs and slate and tile slopes.
Houses in smaller places like Little Chalfont can stand more in the open, so wind and driving rain find any weakness in ridges, verges and flashings. A leak that only appears in certain weather frequently points to an exposed detail. It’s useful to know when and where the water appears. Gutters and downpipes on the exposed side are worth a look as well.
Nothing in the report is left vague: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, and where it can wait, that is said too.

When you need someone else
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Negotiating a claim settlement
- Repair costs or quotes for the work
- A decision on your insurance claim

For landlords and managing agents
We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photographs, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.
How it works
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey typically takes about one to two hours at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. A visit to a smaller place like Little Chalfont is no different on the day: we look from the ground, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it is safe. It’s useful to show us anything you’ve already noticed.
- You let us know when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
- We view the roof from wherever it can safely be seen, including the loft where there’s access.
- We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
- We look at whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
- We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.
Getting ready for the survey
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Advice
Checking the roof from the ground
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

What else we do in Little Chalfont
Storm damage roof reports around Little Chalfont
A number of Buckinghamshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts. With Chenies Manor House about 1.5 miles east, Little Chalfont sits in an area with a long building history. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Landlords with a home close to Chalfont & Latimer station may find that a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. Take a building like Dr Challoner's High School: water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot. For an older house near a landmark like St George's Church, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.

Before and after the survey
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:
- Record any water damage in rooms and the loft
- Report the damage to your insurer as soon as you can
- Write down when the storm hit and when you noticed damage
- Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it’s safe to do so
For repair costs, ask a roofer to quote. They can use our report to see what needs doing.
Have overhanging branches looked at by a tree surgeon. Branches can hit or scrape the roof in a storm.
Little Chalfont questions
Will you come out to Little Chalfont?
Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Little Chalfont?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
How do I book a survey in Little Chalfont?
The quickest way is to phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Tell us the address and a little about the roof, and we will take it from there. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
Are you loss adjusters?
No. We’re not loss adjusters, and we don’t negotiate claims. We give you an independent report of the damage for you to send to your insurer.
Can you put a tarpaulin over the damage?
Emergency cover over a damaged roof should be arranged with a roofer. If it’s safe, photograph the damage before it’s covered. Keep receipts for any emergency work.
Why get it checked now?
With an independent report, you have something specific to show your insurer. It sets out what we found and the likely cause, so you’re not relying only on your own photos. Blocked gutters on homes around Little Chalfont overflow and soak walls. It’s easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.
