Storm damage roof report in High Wycombe

Storms tend to find the weak points on a roof. Slates and tiles slip or blow off, ridge and hip tiles lift, flashings pull away and flat roof coverings can tear. Trees and branches can also hit roofs in a storm. We record the damage on your roof and photograph each part. Where we also see signs of older wear, the report records that too. Common reasons to book are roofs hit by falling trees and flashings pulled away from walls or stacks, on flashings, slate and tile slopes and ridges and hips.

Extensions, dormers and conservatories are common on houses in towns like High Wycombe, and where an extension meets the house is a common leak point. The flashings and upstands at those joints get a proper look. The stain inside is often some way from where water gets in, especially around extensions.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

What happens if roof problems are left?

If the damage is partly wear and tear, it is better to know. Our report gives an honest view of both, so you know what the roof shows. A defect spotted early can be planned and budgeted for, while one found after water comes through usually has to be dealt with in a hurry.

Our price is from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT.

What we can’t see

It is useful to know what a survey will not do before booking:

  • How your policy defines a storm
  • Whether your insurer will pay the claim
  • Acting for you with the insurer

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will suggest the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Chimney stacks
  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Flashings
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Flat roofs
  • Ridges and hips

How the survey changes by roof type

Ridge and hip tiles

The ridge and hips are among the most exposed parts of a roof. The survey notes loose, cracked or missing ridge and hip tiles.

Clay and concrete tiles

Tiles can lift, crack or blow off in high winds. We record which are damaged and where.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. After that, we look at everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. The survey typically takes about one to two hours on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Most visits in a town like High Wycombe start at the front of the house and work round to the back. Rear gardens and side paths often give the best view of extensions and back slopes, so unlocked gates help. The loft comes next, where there is safe access.

  1. You let us know when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
  2. We view the roof from wherever it can be seen safely, including the loft where there is access.
  3. The damage is recorded with photographs, area by area.
  4. We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
  5. You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.

Before we arrive

  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Keep pets in another room

We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos, useful for planning maintenance.

Wind, rain and roofs in High Wycombe

Some villages in Buckinghamshire still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in. About 1.5 miles north lies Hughenden Manor, a reminder of how long the area around High Wycombe has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.

If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Eden, a leak can close part of a shop or office, so finding the cause quickly matters. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Hamilton Academy, on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain. Landlords with a home close to High Wycombe station may find that finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused.

Can I check my roof myself?

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in High Wycombe

Do you carry out roof surveys in High Wycombe?

Yes, High Wycombe is within the area we cover. Our area covers London and the South East. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details.

What do I need to do before a survey in High Wycombe?

The main thing is access, inside and out, plus somewhere to park in High Wycombe. Tell us about known leaks or past repairs as well.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only when it’s safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Should I go up on the roof to take photos?

Safely, from the ground or a window. Never climb onto a roof after a storm. Binoculars can help you see damage from below, and we’ll record the rest.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where applicable and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.

Will you deal with the insurance company for me?

No. Our report is an independent record for you to use. The insurer may send a loss adjuster of its own.

Can I challenge a declined storm claim?

Start by complaining to the insurer. If it isn’t resolved, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to help. The Ombudsman looks at whether there were storm conditions, whether the damage fits a storm and whether the storm was the main cause.
