Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Little Yeldham
The weather decides whether a drone can fly. We don’t fly in high wind or heavy rain, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast ahead of the visit and again on site. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, fragile roofs and large and complex roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and ridge pieces that have lifted.
In a small place like Little Yeldham, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Airspace, weather and Little Yeldham roofs
With Hedingham Castle about 2.3 miles south, Little Yeldham sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Little Yeldham?
Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.
Typical things we’re asked to look at include:
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Parish Church of St John the Baptist, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
What to check before booking
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- What the survey won’t cover
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
What we look for on each type of roof
Large commercial roofs
Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We don’t test for it, but we flag it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.
Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.
DIY checks: what’s safe
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Common questions in Little Yeldham
How do I find out if my home in Little Yeldham is listed?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Is drone flying allowed in Little Yeldham?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Does the report include photos?
Yes. Photographs are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.
Are you insured?
We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it does not include calculations. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
What’s the best way to book?
It is easiest to phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Give us the address and a few details about the roof. Surveys run seven days a week.
Will you walk on the roof?
Not unless it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.

What we do, step by step
Photos are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. A typical visit takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Rural addresses near Little Yeldham can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Note where any stains or damp appear
