Drone roof surveys for Salden homes and businesses

What we do, step by step

The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. It usually takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Around Salden, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
  • Leave a clear route to the loft

About our drone roof survey in Salden

Drones need reasonable weather. We do not fly in strong wind or heavy rain, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the day turns out unsuitable, we will talk about another date or inspect what we can by other means. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. If you’re worried about ponding and splits on a high flat roof and lifted or split lead flashings, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

In a small place like Salden, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photographs, slope by slope. It’s far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. Outbuildings and barns around Salden are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Why us?

  • PI and public liability insurance
  • An independent view of the roof
  • Surveys seven days a week
  • A sub-250g drone, flown with a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID

Should I look at the roof myself first?

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.

Flying and imaging in Salden

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. The wider area around Salden has a long history of building, with Bletchley Park about 3.7 miles north-east. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

If you look after a building like Mursley Church of England School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What affects the price in Salden

Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office

Prices start from £150, inc. VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both including VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking.

Helping us price your survey

If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:

  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • The property’s address and postcode

Not sure which survey you need? The easiest way is to call 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Salden

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed in advance. Surveys run seven days a week, which can make access easier.

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out in order of urgency where relevant, which helps with budgets and planning.

What we are asked to look at in Salden

Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Lifted or split lead flashings
  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose

If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Mary, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • What follow-up you get after the report
  • Are they insured for the work?
  • Whether you get a written report with photos

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Salden

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Salden?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Salden?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

What does the report include?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photographs throughout. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too, so you know exactly what was covered.

How soon will I get the report?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we don’t carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.

How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Salden?

It is easiest to ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Give us the address and a few details about the roof. We survey on any day of the week.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we’re given access to.
