Drone roof surveys in Newport Pagnell

FAQs for Newport Pagnell

Do you carry out roof surveys in Newport Pagnell?

Yes, Newport Pagnell is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Newport Pagnell as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Are there drone restrictions around Newport Pagnell?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and details are available on request.

What will the report tell me?

It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, with photographs throughout. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too.

Do you need to get into the loft?

If it is needed and safe to reach, yes. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

How long is the visit?

It usually takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. You’ll then get the report by email, on the timescale of your package.

Will you photograph what you find?

Yes. Photos are part of every report.

How a drone roof survey works in Newport Pagnell

Our price is from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where it applies, is also part of our Premium Survey, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. If a drone will not help on your roof, we’ll say so. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photographs. Typical surveys look at storm damage on steep or tall roofs and moss building up on slopes and in gutters, on flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.

Older homes in a town like Newport Pagnell may lose heat through roofs with little or no insulation. A thermal camera shows those cold and warm patches, and some of them can point to moisture. It shows temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter, while drone photos show the outside of the same roof. Results depend on conditions, so the timing of the visit matters.

You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Newport Pagnell

Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.

A survey can pick up problems such as:

  • Lead work pulling away at abutments
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Debris building up in hidden gutters

If you live in an older home near Church of St Bede (Roman Catholic), tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Questions to ask before booking

  • When you’ll get the report
  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see

What a roof survey includes

What happens if roof problems are left?

Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Finding them now means less to put right, whatever height the roof is. In a family home in Newport Pagnell, a small roof fault lets water into places you cannot see, like the loft insulation, the top of a wall or the roof timbers. By the time a stain appears on a ceiling, there’s more to put right.

There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Honest limits

We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will point you to the right survey. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

Airspace, weather and Newport Pagnell roofs

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

Anyone responsible for a site like Cedars Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Linford Manor, about 1.4 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Newport Pagnell. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself.

DIY checks: what’s safe

A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

What we look for on each type of roof

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Steep slate and tile slopes

On slate roofs, slipped slates often point to corroded nails. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.

The survey, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit usually takes about 1–2 hours for a house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. A typical visit in Newport Pagnell begins with the street side of the roof and then moves round the building. The back garden is often where extensions, dormers and rear slopes are best seen. The loft comes next, where there is safe access.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

How to book

If you’re buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or use the contact form whenever suits you.
