About our drone roof survey in Tring
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey fragile roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and large and complex roofs, and people most frequently book us about ridge and hip pieces working loose and plant growth and moss on the roof.
Even in a smaller place like Tring, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.
The report doesn’t just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Tring: your questions answered
Are there drone restrictions around Tring?
Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
Will you come out to Tring?
Yes, Tring is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Does someone need to be in?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed when booking.
How quickly is the report sent?
It depends on the package: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when you book.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Drone roof surveys around Tring
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.
Cholesbury Manor House, about 2.9 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Tring. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. Take an older house close to Church of St Peter St Paul (church of England): older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
Tring is about 7 miles east of Aylesbury, in Hertfordshire. From houses to flats and shops in Tring, the roof can be surveyed. Tring is one of the places in Hertfordshire we cover for drone roof surveys. Our Milton Keynes page covers surveys nearby.

How the survey works
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. You’re welcome to ask questions while we are there. With a bit of garden around a house, as there frequently is around Tring, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. The loft, where there is safe access, completes the picture.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
How to book
Booking is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and give us a few details about the property and we’ll recommend the right survey. The price is agreed up front.
Advice
Do you need a drone roof survey in Tring?
Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Debris collects where nobody looks, until water overflows inside. From above, they’re easy to see.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
Anyone responsible for a site like Bishop Wood Church of England Junior School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
What to check before booking
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- How much experience they have with roofs like yours
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
Roof by roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.
Large commercial roofs
Older cement sheet roofs may contain asbestos. We do not test for it, but we flag it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.
Checking the roof from ground level
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.

What affects the price in Tring
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- House, block, shop or office
- Height and safe access
- The roof’s overall size
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.
