Useful tips for Buckland Common property owners

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:

  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that is not clear.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, particularly in autumn. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

Drone roof survey in Buckland Common: what you get

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or is not safe, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. We will tell you if another approach would work better. Common reasons to book are debris building up in hidden gutters and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, across valleys and parapet gutters, fragile roofs and tall and steep roofs.

Somewhere as small as Buckland Common, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

How we price drone roof surveys

All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

What to let us know when you contact us

A little information up front helps. Please include:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage

We survey roofs seven days a week. To find a date that works for you, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and the days you’d prefer.

What you can safely check yourself

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.

What a drone roof survey does not cover

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:

  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • Flights in strong wind or a downpour

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs

Roof by roof

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

Ridges and hips

Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. Their condition is noted in the report.

The survey, step by step

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere as small as Buckland Common, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. We also look inside the roof space where it’s safe.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Advice

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Buckland Common

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Buckland Common?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Will you come out to Buckland Common?

Yes, Buckland Common is covered. Our area covers London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.

What if it rains on the day?

It depends on the weather and the survey. In strong wind or a downpour, a drone cannot fly and access may not be safe, and we’d agree another day.

Do you take photos of the roof?

Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, so you can see what we mean.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

How long does the survey take?

Expect it to take roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The written report follows by email, on the timescale of your package.
