Drone roof survey in Woolmer Green
Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. If a drone isn’t the right tool, we will say so. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, large and complex roofs and fragile roofs, and people most frequently book us about blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and flashings that have come away.
Somewhere as small as Woolmer Green, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned in advance. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, like when you want to compare after future work.

Different roofs, different checks
Valleys and parapet gutters
When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Leaks frequently start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up, as far as the flight allows.
Questions from Woolmer Green
Is Woolmer Green within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Woolmer Green?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Will the drone film my neighbours?
Privacy is taken seriously on every flight. The camera is pointed at your roof, not next door. It’s worth telling neighbours about the flight.
Can you fly a drone in central London?
Some areas need permission from NATS before any flight. If permission is not possible, we inspect by other means and explain what we could see.
When does the report arrive?
It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.
How long does the visit take?
The visit typically takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. We will give you an idea of timing when you book.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Mention it when you contact us and we will explain what’s needed.
The survey, step by step
A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, take photographs as we go and record our findings for the written report. It usually takes about 1–2 hours for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Older rural homes like those around Woolmer Green can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Leave a clear route to the loft

Before and after the survey
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:
- Let us know about any leaks or concerns
- Check the loft can be reached
- Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that is not clear.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.
Drone roof surveys around Woolmer Green
The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.
Take a building like St Michael's Woolmer Green CofE VA Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Take an older house close to Church of St Michael and All Angels: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Historic houses such as Knebworth House, about 2 miles north-west, show how far back building around Woolmer Green goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.

Can I check my roof myself?
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- The shape of the roof and its details
- The size of the roof
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
Every price we give includes VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.
Helping us price your survey
There’s no need for technical words. Just let us know:
- What made you get in touch
- Anything about access we should know
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
