Your questions about flat roof surveys in North Weald Bassett
Do you carry out roof surveys in North Weald Bassett?
Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and North Weald Bassett is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Is my home in North Weald Bassett listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
How do I arrange a flat roof survey in North Weald Bassett?
To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Can you survey in bad weather?
It can, depending on the survey. Drones cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We’ll rearrange with you if the weather is not right.
When does the report arrive?
Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know as you book.
Can you find where water is getting through my flat roof?
We check the covering and every detail where leaks commonly start, recording anything that could let water through. If the source is hidden, we may suggest a leak investigation or electronic leak detection.
Flat roof survey in North Weald Bassett: what you get
A flat roof survey looks at the covering, the edges, the outlets and the details where the roof meets walls and rooflights. Felt, asphalt, EPDM, GRP and single-ply PVC or TPO roofs are all part of the work. It suits a small roof over an extension or garage as well as a large one over flats, offices or units. You get a written report with photos and our recommendations. Typical surveys look at raised blisters across the surface and standing water left after rain, across felt flat roofs, single-ply membranes and mastic asphalt.
Around a smaller place like North Weald Bassett, flat roofs usually cover extensions, garages and dormers. They’re small, but a leak over a kitchen extension can do a lot of harm. Knowing the covering and how it was laid tells you what to expect from it, from felt and asphalt to EPDM rubber and GRP. Ponding, splits and lifting edges are the signs to look for from a window.
You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

What we cannot see
No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- The condition of the deck or insulation hidden under the covering
- A fixed date for when the roof will need replacing
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you. What a survey covers and does not.

What happens on the day
You do not need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes about one to two hours for a small flat roof at home, and longer for a large commercial one. A visit to a smaller place like North Weald Bassett is no different on the day: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.
- We start with the details: the address, the roof’s use and any leaks or stains.
- We view the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof where it’s safe to do so.
- We check and photograph the covering, the falls, the upstands, the outlets, the trims and any rooflights.
- Inside, we look for damp and staining under the roof where there’s access.
- You get a report with photos and our recommendations.
How to prepare
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Clear the way to the loft hatch

Roof by roof
Felt and built-up roofs
Many extensions, garages and dormers have a felt roof laid in layers. We look for blistering, cracking, split laps and worn mineral surfacing.
GRP fibreglass
Movement in the deck or a thin layer of resin can lead to cracks in GRP. We record any cracking and any signs of the deck moving.
Why act early in North Weald Bassett
Ponding seldom gets better on its own. It typically points to an outlet, the falls or a sagging deck, and every wet spell adds to the wear. Knowing the cause early gives you more choice over what to do. Around North Weald Bassett, a leak in an older house can soak into timbers and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the roof fault itself.
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Tips from our surveys
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Look for standing water a day after rain
- Limit foot traffic on the covering
- Note any new marks on ceilings beneath the roof
- Have the roof looked at again after a severe storm
Once we have been, the findings are written up with photos. It covers the type of covering, its condition and each defect, with our recommendations. Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24 to 48 hours and Premium reports the same day.
Get splits, lifted seams and loose trims seen to while they’re small. Prompt repairs tend to add years to a flat roof.
