New roof snagging in Blewbury
Roof work often leaves debris behind. We look for broken tiles, offcuts and nails left in gutters and on lower roofs along with any damage to other parts of the property. It’s all recorded with photos. Gutters full of offcuts can overflow in the next heavy rain, and cracked lower roofs can leak. Finding these early makes them easier to raise. We survey new-build homes, replacement roofs and loft conversions and dormers, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are loose or badly finished ridge tiles and cracked or slipped new tiles or slates.
For a small place like Blewbury, the visit is planned like any other: the journey, parking and access are simply agreed in advance. If there are outbuildings with roofs you want checked, mention them when you book. Whether you are buying or checking new work, the same care goes into it. Visits can be booked seven days a week.
The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Questions from Blewbury
Is Blewbury within the area you cover?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Do you cover Blewbury?
Yes, Blewbury is within the area we cover. Our area covers London and South East England. You can call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and some details.
Will you check the loft?
Usually, if there’s one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
How much is new roof snagging?
Our packages start from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. For a price for your roof, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
Can you survey in bad weather?
Light rain does not usually stop a survey. Strong wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so we will agree a new date if the weather isn’t suitable.
What’s the best time to have a new roof checked?
As soon as the work is finished, and before the final payment if you can. That leaves time to raise anything we find.
Do I need to be at home?
It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we’ll agree the details when booking.
What we look for on each type of roof
Valleys
Debris left in a new valley can block it. We note anything left behind.
Clay and concrete tiles
Well-laid tiles can last for decades. We check for cracked, uneven or poorly fixed tiles as far as can be seen.
Leave it or get it looked at?
A defects or warranty period does not last for ever. A snagging inspection before then leaves time to act. In a small place like Blewbury, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Our price is from £150, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we’ll tell you which fits.

The survey, step by step
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes about one to two hours at most homes; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Older rural homes like those around Blewbury can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- We start with what the roofer did and when they finished.
- We check the coverings, ridges, hips and verges from safe vantage points.
- We look at valleys, flashings, gutters and the underlay at the eaves.
- We check the loft where safe and look for debris or damage.
- You get a photo report of each snag.
Before we arrive
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Jot down any questions you want answered

Should I look at the roof myself first?
It’s useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Before and after the survey
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Check the roof before you pay in full
- Look for debris left in gutters from the ground
- Note the end of any warranty or defects period
- Keep the contract and invoices together
Once the work is finished, check the ceilings and loft after the next downpour. If anything shows, tell your roofer straight away.
Tell your roofer at the start that the work will be inspected. Everyone then knows what to expect and leaves time for snags to be fixed.
Local roofs and buyers in Blewbury
Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Each material has its own typical faults, which is what a buyer or the owner of a new roof needs to know about. With Brightwell Manor about 4.1 miles north-east, Blewbury sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.
Landlords with a home close to Didcot Parkway station may find that a survey before purchase, or before signing off a new roof, saves surprises once a tenant moves in. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Michael, a survey will show how the roof has been repaired before, which helps you judge what’s coming.
Blewbury is about 3 miles south of Didcot, in Oxfordshire. Whether the building in Blewbury is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, we can survey the roof on a weekday or at the weekend.
