New Roof Snagging in Haslar
An experienced roof surveyor for new roof snagging in Haslar. More than 20 years and over 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
- Underlay not dressed into the gutter
- Cracked mortar at the ridge or hips
- Damage to other parts of the building
What we’re asked to look at in Haslar
Scaffolding and materials can damage other parts of a building. We look for knock-on damage, not just the new roof.
We are often asked to look at:
- Tiles or slates sitting out of line
- Loose or badly finished ridge tiles
- Signs of condensation in the loft space
- Gutters blocked by building debris
For an older house near a landmark like St Francis, older patch repairs can hide behind a tidy front slope, and the survey looks past them.

New roof snagging for homes and businesses in Haslar
Replacing a roof costs a lot, so it’s worth having it checked before the final payment. We look for snags, faults and anything left unfinished on the new roof and around it. You get a photo-illustrated written report that you can pass to your roofer. It’s an independent check, separate from the roofer who did the work. If you are worried about cracked or slipped new tiles or slates and underlay not dressed into the gutter, we can find out what’s behind it.
Some older homes in villages like Haslar are listed or sit in a conservation area. That can affect what materials a new roof may use, so check with the council and Historic England’s list. Whether you’re buying or signing off new roofing, it’s worth knowing where you stand. There are about 500,000 listed buildings and around 10,000 conservation areas in England.
You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

What a survey costs
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Which survey package you book
- House, block, shop or office
- How big the roof is
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
Getting in touch
When you call or email, these details help:
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
Not sure which survey you need? The easiest way is to phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.
DIY checks: what’s safe
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey.
It is useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.

What else we do in Haslar
What we can’t see
A survey is a careful look at the new roof, but it cannot do everything. Its limits include:
- Areas out of view from every safe vantage point
- Pricing the remedial work
- Fixings and underlay hidden under the coverings
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will point you to the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.
What we check
- Replacement roofs
- Flashings and valleys
- Ridges and verges
- New-build homes
- New flat roofs
- Loft conversions and dormers
How it works
Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take about one to two hours for a typical new house roof, longer where the roof is large or complicated. For a village or hamlet like Haslar, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- First, you let us know what the roofer did and any concerns you have.
- The coverings, ridges, hips and verges are checked as far as can be seen safely.
- Valleys, flashings, gutters and the underlay at the eaves are looked at.
- The loft space is checked where safe, along with any mess or damage left after the work.
- The snags are written up with photos for you to share with your roofer.
Getting ready for the survey
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at

Questions from Haslar
Is Haslar within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Does being near the coast affect roofs in Haslar?
Yes, coastal weather is harder on roofs: there’s more wind, and more salt in the air. Exposed details such as ridges, verges, flashings and metal fixings are the ones to watch.
How long will you be on site?
It usually takes about 1–2 hours for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. You’ll know roughly how long when we arrange it.
Which parts of the roof does snagging cover?
All the parts of the roof we can see safely, from the ridge and verges down to the eaves and gutters. The roof space is looked at where there’s safe access and check for damage left by the job.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with the freeholder or managing agent. Let us know about it when you book and we will explain what’s needed.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Do you check new-build roofs?
Yes. We check new-build roofs from safe vantage points and the loft space and photograph what we find. Book before the defects period runs out if you can.
What new roof snagging looks like in Haslar
The coast is about 1 mile or less from Haslar, and being near the sea means more wind and salt than a roof inland would face. Salt is hard on nails, clips and metal flashings, and strong wind lifts anything already loose on a roof, so exposed details get a close look whether you are buying or signing off new work. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Material and age explain a lot of what turns up on the day, whether the roof is old or brand new.
If you own a rental within reach of Portsmouth Harbour station, the roof is worth checking before you add another property to a portfolio or pay a roofer in full.
