How new roof snagging works in Hampshire
Our inspection covers the slates or tiles, ridges, verges, hips and valleys, along with the flashings and ventilation. We check the underlay at the eaves where it is visible as well as the gutters. You get a photo report of what we found. We also note debris left behind and any damage to other parts of the building. We survey new-build homes, loft conversions and dormers and flashings and valleys, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are vents that weren’t fitted or are covered and cracked mortar at the ridge or hips.
A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and make notes for the report. It typically takes about one to two hours for most homes, depending on how much new work there is to check.
- We agree what to focus on, such as a payment date or a warranty period ending.
- We inspect as far as safe access allows.
- We work through ridges, verges, valleys and flashings.
- Debris and damage to other parts are recorded.
- You receive a report to share with your roofer.
What affects the price in Hampshire
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. You’ll know the figure before booking.

Near you in Basingstoke
In Basingstoke, that means homes and buildings near King's Furlong Infant School and Nursery, Cranbourne and Eastrop Park. Also close by are The Rising Sun pub (0.5 miles north-east), St Michael's Church (0.5 miles east) and The Costello School (1 mile east). For rail, the closest station is Basingstoke station, about 0.6 miles east of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Basing House (2.2 miles east) and The Malls (0.6 miles east). Not far away are Farleigh Hill and Daneshill Park Woods.
New roof snagging across Hampshire: local notes
Hampshire has homes of every age, old and new, and some older buildings are listed or sit in conservation areas. Whether you’re buying or checking new roofing work, knowing the roof’s condition before you commit makes sense.
We survey roofs across London and the South East, and Hampshire is part of that. Housing here runs from Victorian and Edwardian terraces to post-war new towns and modern estates. Parts of Hampshire are on or near the coast, where roofs face more wind and more salt in the air than inland. Salt is hard on nails, clips and metal flashings, and strong wind lifts anything already loose.
Basingstoke: The Vyne, about 2.9 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Basingstoke. Buying a period property here means asking about the roof’s age and repairs, and about any listing or conservation area. Take an older house close to St Michael's Church: the roof’s history matters as much as its looks, and a survey brings the past repairs to light.
Leave it or get it looked at?
It’s easier to get snags sorted while money is still owed. Once the job is paid and the roofer has moved on, getting them back can take longer. A snagging report gives you something specific to raise.
Before booking any surveyor
- Will the report include photos?
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- When you’ll get the report
- Is VAT included in the price?
Before and after the survey
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Arrange the inspection before settling the final bill
- Let your roofer know an inspection is planned
- Watch for gutters overflowing in rain
- Raise snags in writing with your roofer
Keep the report with any warranty papers from your roofer. It records the roof’s condition at that point.
Keep the final payment until the roof has been checked if your contract allows it. It keeps the job open until it’s right.
Honest limits
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- What’s under the new coverings
- Repair costs for putting snags right
- Details hidden from sight
What a survey costs
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.
Helping us price your survey
Getting the details right at the start saves time. It helps to include:
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Your timetable, like an exchange date
- What made you get in touch
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
We confirm the exact price before you book, so you know where you stand. Prices start from £150, including VAT. To book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
How the survey changes by roof type
Flashings
Flashings seal the roof to walls and chimneys. We check how they’re dressed, fixed and pointed.
Valleys
Offcuts in a valley can hold water. Leftover debris is recorded.
Your questions about new roof snagging in Hampshire
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.
When should I book new roof snagging?
Before the final payment is best so snags can be raised while the job is still open. If that is passed, book before any defects or warranty period ends.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
How do I arrange new roof snagging in Hampshire?
To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and find a day that suits.
Can you inspect the roof on a new-build home?
Yes. We inspect the roof as far as it can safely be seen and photograph what we find. It’s worth booking before your builder’s defects period ends.
What if it rains on the day?
A survey can usually go ahead in light rain, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Strong wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we will arrange another day with you.
